I've been looking around for awhile but I can't seem to grasp any of these terms properly and how any of these currencies are used.

What does TBT and IBT stand for?
I think TBT is the bell currency on this site, and I think you get two for every post you make? I think this is only a once a day occurrence? Does this include new threads or responses to threads? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm really sorry, I'm trying to get around and get used to stuff here!

There more in-detail that you write in a post the more TBT bells you get, and IGB (not IBT) Is in-game-bells for animal crossing new leaf

(example: you will get less bells on a post that says: I agree, haha that was very funny. But you will get more bells on a post that says: I agree because (and just go more into detail), haha that was very funny because (and write a lot more stuff)

Just to pitch in that on some boards you don't get TBT for posting. I believe this is only for The Basement, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've never heard of IBT but I'd guess it stands for in-game bells trade (usually just shortened as IGB in my experience), just going off of TBT

and TBT are the bells that show up on your sidebar that you get on your own primarily through posting (barring certain boards that give you nothing)

You get Bells from posting in The Basement. Hasn't always been that way, though. They changed it sometime last year, I think.

This is actually very interesting (especially since I hardly paid attention to what tbt were)

I've seen the FAQ a few times. But what method do they use to constitute an "in depth" response? Word count?
I've also seen people mention the exchange rate, with what seems to be great confidence in the currency exchange between tbt and igb... where is that found?

You don't get paid TBT in the following locations:

  • The Introduction Board
  • The Basement
  • TBT Marketplace
  • Bulletin Board
  • Museum Shop
  • Event boards (also doesn't count towards post count)
Other than that, you can get paid for posting anywhere.

Actually this is wrong as I have been told by Justin that you do get btb for for posting in Brewster's cafe. Unless he's lying to me. Lol

They don't necessarily count how "in-depth" your response is, but they count the number of lines. If I wrote a paragraph worth 10 lines of text, I'd get 10 tbt for that. Of course, there's a standard measurement for how long a line so you don't necessarily get 10 tbt for entering 10 lines of text with just a single word per line. I hope that made sense!

As for the exchange rate, I'm not sure where it started or who started it, but, y'know, the market sets itself according to the demand and supplies of the people. It surprisingly hasn't changed for a long time. If what I know is still right (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the conversion rate is 100 TBT to 20 mil IGB.

I just wanna point out that "TBT" that everyone is pointing out is not the correct term for what they are talking about.
TBT stands for "the bell tree" and as far as I'm aware you don't pay with a tree. Lol

Now, if people say "TBT bells" instead of "TBT" then you can already see that is making more sense. If you wanna make it even shorter just put "TBTB" as it's the accurate name for it. Calling it just "TBT" is just complete laziness tbh.
Now another thing you can call it is "BTB" as that stands for "bell tree bells". Although some people will try and "correct" people for saying "BTB" instead of "TBT". *eyes roll*

I just wanted to clarify the accurate terms here and inform you on all this as I didn't see anyone else on here doing that. If they already did, I apologise.
