I've never played a Pokemon game but i'd like to try it out, I know that Sun/Moon is coming out in november but that's a ways away so i'd like to get one sooner. I've had Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire recommended to me which makes sense since (i'm pretty sure) it's the most recent game but I was wondering what other people suggest c:

Any game honestly. It really doesn't matter. You prob shouldn't start with the weakest one though (XY)

I recommend White/Black and or White2/Black2. They aren't overly hard, but they aren't the easiest games in the series either. Plus, they have a pretty good amount of content.

Gen 4 is probably what I'd recommend as I really enjoyed it and it's still challenging but not quite as bad as the older games. (Gen 3 is ultimately my fave but probably not the best for beginners as I found it frustrating at times as a beginner years ago). Wasn't a fan of gen 5 but it's still good too.

Gen 4 is made up of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver. The Gold and Silver remakes in particular have a ton of content since they have two regions in one. And they are my second favourite games behind Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire.

If you are strictly wanting to play a 3DS game then definitely go for Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. X/Y were good too but ORAS is far superior in my opinion.

Gen 4 for sure. So getting either diamond or pearl first would be idle. Then after you beat that, you can always try playing through platinum as well. :) They're pretty easy overall.

Pretty much this, or if you want a current gen. game get OR/AS if you wanna be able to multiplayer easily.

As someone said above, i do not recommend you play the really-really-easy one of XY *i defeated elite four in 7 min. with a empoleon*

Try getting games from 4th gen or 5th gen, those are the best

Or maybe you could start from 1st gen / 2nd gen

I would start off with Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. I thought about recommending X/Y due it's kinda easy nature, but there's a segment in the beginning that kills interest for a surprisingly large number of people. With Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire the pacing is more bearable and it's got some pretty nifty features.

Honestly unless you plan on getting invested with the series, I wouldn't really mess with any game before Gen 6 (X/Y/OR/AS) unless it's the Virtual Console release of Red/Blue/Yellow. If you get invested with your Pokemon and would like to import them, for Gen 4 you'd have to buy a Gen 5 game and then pay the $5 Pokebank fee (I believe you'd need a Gen 6 game as well).

start from the sinnoh games as the graphics and games features gets better from there. pokemon gameboy games suck imo.

If you want to start in order, start with Sou Silver/Heart Gold, as you can do both Kanto and Johto in there (this is assuming you do not want to do GBA games or don't want to emulate them on your PC). Once you're done with those, do Pearl/Diamond/Platinum (platinum is sort of the sequel but is probably the best IMHO). Black/White/2 were probably my favorite games due to their storyline, but it's not that good to do them blindly unless you want to just start in the middle.

X/Y weren't as terrible as everyone makes them seem, but they were pretty easy. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are good remakes of two of the GBA games, but being the most recent ya probably shouldn't get started with them, as it's easier to start at the bottom and go up than to start at the top and go down, where there's less features.

I highly recommend that you start with Pok?mon HeartGold or SoulSilver. It's my favorite pok?mon game overall. You can go to both Kanto and Johto, catch nearly every legendary at the time, and it also has Pok?athleon, which is a fun little mini game that lets you play sports with your pok?mon. You can also catch rare pok?mon and transfer them up to the newer games. Another game I recommend is Pok?mon Black 2 or White 2. These games have lots of places to explore and a great story.
