Would you rather play Super Mario 64 with HD graphics like we have today, or would you rather play Super Mario Odyssey using Super Mario 64’s original graphics? Basically speaking...
- Super Mario 64 (Nintendo Switch graphics)
- Super Mario Odyssey (N64 graphics)
If I had to choose, I would rather have a remastered SM64 over a de-mastered SMO. Not only the N64 Mario graphics looks unbearably distasteful, but Super Mario Odyssey is tedious, and by the time you get past the Metro Kingdom, it does not feel the same as it does earlier in the game. I don’t care about graphics in general, but 32-bit graphics looks horrible. And if they both have the same level of graphics, Super Mario 64 would be more enjoyable, despite smaller levels and outdated mechanics.
I'm super nostalgic for SM64, so I'd love to play a remastered version again. And I don't really see the point in playing modern games with outdated graphics, I don't think it would make any game more interesting unless it's from 3D to 2D.
But not as much as a remake of Sunshine. There was a great game hidden in there somewhere. Add some new shines, get rid of the blue coin collecting. Expand that last world, add some playable characters, get rid of the boot out at the end of each mission and the inability to get shines out of order. Maybe a few new FLUDD functions.
I really don't have any interest in taking modern games and making them look older. That just feels forced, tbh.
I mean...it's one thing to develop an old-style game in the modern era, and call it a "demake" or a "demaster"...but, only if it's a fully new game. Like...I remember that Mummy game coming out a few years ago, and they called that "Mummy Demastered". But, it wasn't actually a remake of a modern game...it was just a new game that they made in that style and decided to joke about. I think those tongue-in-cheek type of game releases are fun...but, I see no point in taking a real pre-existing game and re-releasing it in a retro format. That's just not something that interests me.
Also, I agree with a Sunshine remaster being more appealing than 64. But, I'd take either.
A billion percent HD 64. Not only is there a nostalgia factor involved, but it would be more exciting to see a great game get upgraded graphics opposed to a good game get downgraded graphics. As others have stated, there’s no appeal there for me.
What I’m really waiting for is an updated TTYD *preorders Origami King so I can be met with disappointment in 2 months*
I don't know why anyone would want to play a "demake" or "demaster" to N64 or PS1 era graphics. If you want to downgrade graphics, then go back to NES or SNES. 2D graphics tend to actually look way better than the early 3D graphics games.
Probably mario 64 remake, It's a really great game with such good movement and very cool levels! I also love super mario odyssey though and I don't think I'd mind the graphics but I don't think the game would be as charming in those graphics or feel the same.
I adored playing Mario 64 when I was younger, it would be fantastic to have a resurgence with that game but maybe more remastered. Better depth controls and graphic improvement while keeping the original love programmed into the game!
