I'm more than pleased with the new cast of villagers coming to the fifth amiibo series, but what a shame that there won't be a 100 new cards!
I was pretty convinced that Tarou was going to make a return, and I'm a little sad that he very likely won't ever be in New Horizons...
What about you guys? I haven't taken a look at all of the missing villagers recently, and I'm curious as to if there's any hidden gems that I'm unaware of.
Belle the cow! I always thought she was adorable and we could always use more cows Nindori would've been fun too, that way Coco would have some company.
Meow and Bow. But once I found out that they were collab characters to promote a toy (I believe?) I knew they wouldn't be. The only other old villager I really liked is Sunny. She reminds of the spring green frog Build a Bear. Plus, I feel like there aren't enough basic looking frogs. Which may be hypocritical, because I wouldn't choose any other old villagers because I find them too plain compared to the newer designs. I will say though, I like the returning villagers more than I thought I would now that they're updated to the HD models.
While I did used to have the Gamecube game, I did not play it enough to remember the villagers that are now missing, unfortunately. I also haven't played Animal Forest e+. But just based on their designs, some characters I think are fun are Woolio (I don't think I'd want him as one of my 10 villagers, but his design is great!) and Meow (unlikely to ever return because of being kind of a licensed character). I think Belle having that regular dairy cow look is kinda cute too.
Speaking of missing characters, I REALLY want to see a return of Felyne and the Nintendo amiibo figure characters. Felyne is a little less likely because it's a Capcom IP, but there's no reason not to bring back the Splatoon and Zelda characters, ESPECIALLY because both series' are getting a new game next year (Splatoon 3 and Breath of the Wild 2).
I've only played New Horizons so I don't know much about older NPCs, but as a crazy cat person I wanted more Rover. Katie looks super cute, and Blanca sounds fun though after the non Nintendo friendly things people could draw on his face I kinda can she why he's not back .
in terms of old villagers I always liked the look of those tamagotchi style ones, Bow and Meow.
I don’t have an attachment to any of the old villagers, but Tarou the Wolf, and Kit the (fox-looking) squirrel Jock would’ve been great.
It’s obviously all subjective, but I don’t get why some villagers were chosen above others. Ace seems really generic to me, especially because we already have several jock birds.
I was really hoping for Quetzal the jock eagle. Maybe next time buddy, maybe next time.
Honestly I was banking on all of them except for the collab ones (Bow, Meow, Nindori) coming back, so it's at least nice to see some return. Of the ones that are coming, I really do like Roswell.
I'm actually shocked they did a mini-pack. Makes me wonder if they planned to have the solid 100, but the fan backlash about no updates brought the update out sooner and cost us more returning villagers. Just a theory though.
I have 0 connection to the old villagers, but I think Tarou could of been added to give the Wolves a Jock, Sue E is a very striking design, and Woolio is pretty cool.
Nindori would've been fun too, that way Coco would have some company.
