What Small Details About Villagers Made You Smile?

A lot of things villagers do make me smile constantly every time I catch them doing something. I love how expressive villagers are now and overall how they're much more aware of their surroundings, and how they interact with the world around them. They feel very much alive.

Villagers look around as they walk, observe flowers, sit under trees or by the river contemplating life, read a book, greet each other, and in general are so easily distracted by the wonders of life, such as a butterfly or grasshopper ☺

I really enjoy the little details such as pigs and dogs' ears flopping about as they move their head, how villagers follow you with their eyes, the tail waggles of anteaters, chickens, squirrels... It's just so cute!

Some of the things they do were already introduced in NL, such as actively trying to catch bugs and interacting with PWPs (and now furniture placed outside) but NH took it to a whole other level which I really appreciated.

Also, TOE BEANS! 💖🐾

I agree with everything you said. I honestly almost forgot about them toe beans 🥺. Thank you so much for reminding me. Blessed little toe beans; I wish one of my cats cleaned them as good as my villagers.

Toe beans 🥺🥰. Who doesn’t love them?

The expressions really are wonderful. Some do them better than others. Like for me, Punchy and Rudy are the best in their class at expressions (though Kiki’s mischief is great 😊); Judy and Dom are also great :).

I don’t have any screenshots with them playing, but I feel like the play activity especially also gives them some life and also the nature hobby. I think all of them to a degree but some do more than others.

Just wanted to add on to what Panda said; I think she covered it better and all :).

I like how sometimes villagers sing to random stuff. Once I saw Judy singing to a black rose but I didn't take a video 😣

I think that just overall with the higher resolution/graphics, things that were overlooked in the past games due to compression were able to be seen. And like @Dunquixote said, the little footprints were all the rage when the game first came out and during the first few trailers. I remember a lot of Twitter posts freaking out about it (back when I frequented the site and didn't have half the mind to jump from the cyst-pool).

I’m not sure if this happened in previous games, but I love the little tail wiggle villagers do when you greet them (specifically squirrels). It’s just so adorable?!

I love it when the wolves do a little wag of the tail when they are pleased. So cute.

I also love the interior of Victoria's house. She has a racetrack with 7 of the springy ride ons arranged around it. It's adorable.

It's funny- when I first saw pics of Judy, she wasn't a favorite of mine. But I talked to see her someone's dream address... and just LOVED her expressions!

That reminds me of when I had Ursala! I didn't know about hobbies back then (hers is music), but I remember walking my island and thinking, "Is someone singing?" I found her standing on the beach, singing out to sea. She looked like she wanted to sing, but was too self-conscious to sing in public. It was so sweet 😍

And she would eventually give "concerts" in the plaza- I think the secret beach practice paid off!

Also I think it's cute when they are sitting under a tree and you shake fruit out of the tree and the fruit is inside them. Or, they sit on flowers and the flowers go through them.

It's cute when they flirt with each other too. Raymond seemed to have a crush on one of the peppies once and was super awkward. I wish I could remember which peppy. Either Bluebear or Flora.

mine REALLY like the tamborine. if i have one out they will play with it almost constantly. its adorable :)
Oh, yah! I have a tambourine in my music area, and they love it. I find it helps to place music players next to instruments- villagers have PERFECT rhythm ☺

I also have a ukelele on my beach, and they really like that, too!

Even though I rarely talk to the villagers because they repeat the same thing over and over, I like that they eat and drink stuff in this game, it's a cute touch. I think it makes them feel less robotic too, so I really wish they would have dialogue like in the original Animal Crossing =/
I also like when they have books out~

I really like how the tips of the animals ears move when they move. It's very hard to see, and I've only seen it on cats and rabbits, but the ears moving is cute to me. Also the tail swishing all around when the animals use the 'greeting/hello' reaction, most notably seen on cats and squirrels.

Dom's expressions! He is just so dang cuuuute!

Also on my second island Willowisp, I've been trying to befriend all the villagers there. I don't have a high friendship with any of them yet, but some of them, like Jacques, Kyle, Eugene, Cyd and Static, have just randomly given my character gifts out of the blue. The villagers on my older island don't give my char gifts face-to-face as much as they would on Willowisp.

I don't know if I've mentioned this somewhere else previously, but I love when they reminisce about their families. It's always sweet stories, like how their dad used to pack their lunch when they were little. So cute! 😍

this isn’t about any particular villager, but i find it hilarious that if you leave a villager’s house without speaking to them, they’ll immediately be like “?” lol. i discovered this on day one with kid cat, and it made me smile. it’s such a minor detail, but man is it a good one aha.

Lou looks like Donkey Kong. Before New Horizons he had the M Shirt.

Today i just found him in a Island and since he's a dreamie, i invite him to Zenda.

One interesting thing I just noticed was that if two villagers are talking with one another and you don't get involved and then see the two villagers (or one) who were talking with the other either get upset, angry or happy, then they discuss the conversation you missed between the two on what happened.

For example, I was walking in my village when from afar on my screen, I see both Julian and Vivian talking with one another in the distance. I then see Julian storm off in anger afterward. I usually just ignore when villagers get into conversation and have falling out issues from experiences with past games as villagers usually just don't want to be bothered but this time I decided to go talk with him.

Julian then explains how upset and angry he is with Vivian about how she got him a jewelery box as a gift and how the gift "wasn't him" and that she didn't seem to know him at all. You then get the option to talk it out with him and I chose something along the lines of "It was still a gift" and he went a defused after.

I thought this was actually very cool as in past games, when mad, most villagers would usually say something like "don't bother me" or "get away from me" and you'd have to just let them be. You wouldn't know what had occurred between the two conversing villagers on what had made them so upset to begin with but now, they actually start confiding in you about the issue even if you miss the conversation.

So yeah, pretty cool 😄

Looking at the butterflies like Sally here.
It's so cute.

And when Poppy wants to sit and read her book.

Hazel has the play hobby, so she runs around everywhere; it's so cute to watch her play around.
(old video)

And also singing, Sally has the music hobby like Marshal and Static who are also on my island.

I love their little smile whenever my villagers interact with some things. I recently made a cat cafe and occasionally one of them will sit in the cafe reading a book or interact with the espresso machine - their little happy expression is so cute! Makes it feel like they actually appreciate my builds.

Skye's catchphrase of "airmail" is just the best. She was my first normal villager and I thought more of the villagers would have odd catchphrases. She's such a great wolf.
