What to do when there's a rumor about a villager moving?

So there's a user on here that REALLY wants the villager Egbert, and my sister has him in her town and she plans on resetting soon so she doesn't mind me TTing a ton trying to get Egbert to move.
Anyway, after a bit of TTing, I talk to one of her villagers and she goes "I hear Egbert is having thoughts about leaving town" At first I was like "YESSSS!" but now... I'm confused as to what happens next.

Will Egbert ping me about it?
What if he doesn't?
How do I find out what his moving date is if he's moving?

He'll ping you about it. The best way to do it is to make sure you don't have any furntiture or anything that he'll buy in your pockets and walk around him. If he doesn't ping you right away you can try the diving trick for 5 minutes and go back to walking around him. If he still doesn't do it then save and quit, and open it up and try again. Eventually he will ping you and tell you he's moving and what date.

There is a chance he might not move, if he tells you he is and you respond and he decides to change his mind. Then just quit and restart, and try again.

Good luck!

Yes, totally agree. Once a villager says so and so is thinking about moving, that villager has formed the intention to move. You just gotta get him to ping! I just saved, exited and went back into the game a few times, and it worked for me.

You have to be careful though. If someone says Egbert is leaving, and he pings you about leaving, there's a chance he'll stay if you say he should leave. He'll say he wants to be better friends with you. If that happens, just shut off your game and if he pings again, say he should leave until he gives you a moving date. If you want him to leave for sure, ignore his pings, but you wont know when he'll leave.

It should take 5 days before they actually leave after hearing the first rumour. If they planned to leave they'll ping you each time they see you, to tell you they already have picked a date to leave. Avoiding will make them go, talking will confirm they should leave (and they'll tell you the date) but can also work against you and make them stay. If they decided to stay your friendship will have gone up a bit because you talked and you prevented a "friend" from moving out, so the villager won't move out any time soon any more.

Once they are in boxes Isabelle will notify you (the mayor) on that upon starting the game.
