Everyone's getting excited for big hitters like Mario Kart Wii, no doubt. Okami, for example, is being talked about incessantly, with fans hoping it will be more successful on Wii than PS2. But one game in particular is getting overlooked. A very "big-name" game.

To classic gamers, Ninja Gaiden will evoke memories both pleasant and not-so-pleasant. We all remember loving the music and thoughtful level design, but we also remember breaking a few controllers in frustration. Those early NES games were hard. Then came the series reimagining on Xbox, simply titled "Ninja Gaiden". It was the first one in 3D, and like many franchises before it, the jump to the third dimension was mostly unproblematic.

Then the PS3 got a sequel, along with a remake of the original Xbox title. What's next for good ol' Itagaki and Co.?

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword. Think the DS is "underpowered"? Think again.

Though it may not look impressive from screenshots, trust me; this thing looks like a Gamecube game. I've played the demo, and I was absolutely blown away. The production values were through the roof!

Now, what about the gameplay? Controls?

The game plays a little like Phantom Hourglass... stylus-only. Before that dissuades you, know this; I wasn't enamored with PH's control scheme, but Ninja Gaiden's is practically flawless. Especially during the battle sequences.

3, 4, 5 enemies coming at you, and you hack and slash with your sword with tons of ninja moves... it's really, really fun. It's like Streets of Rage or River City Ransom in 3D! From the demo I played, the only control issues I ran into were during the "quiet" moments, when there were no enemies on screen. It's sometimes a little tough to navigate Ryu.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So, bottom line? Get Ninja Gaiden DS. It's the best third party DS game out right now (errr, comes out March 25th), and, as such, all the reviews are glowing.

I would but I have better games to get first.
Define "better games".
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Okami, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2, and Mario Kart Wii.
I also have to renew my NP subscription.
Let me tell you something about MKWii... I've talked with a few journalists who have preview copies, and they're not too thrilled. A lot of guys are toying with "7.9" scores. I'm not saying that immediately makes MKWii a bad game, but just sayin'...

Double Dash!! got low scores but I still loved it.
Also, I would have gotten this but I bought something else(Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast).

Yeah, Double Dash!! got scores in the 7 territory... and the game deserved it completely. For what it was, it was a competent racing game. But better than Mario Kart 64? No way. Granted, MK64 got, like, a 6 from Gamespot, so c'est la vie...

Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart: Double Dash!! > Mario Kart 64

I never played the SNES Mario Kart game.

Ninja Gaiden DS? Out today? Tecmo? Best third-party? Enter sentence fragment here?

It looks cool, I don't know, I don't think I'm getting it.

Why wouldn't you get it if it looks cool? D:

@ Gremp - You should get a DS sometime soon... They're not too expensive, and I don't think there'll be a price drop anytime soon, so...

I was going to get this game today but I changed my mine.
With the release of Okami($39.99?), Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2($60.00), and Mario Kart Wii($50.00) in April, I thought I'd just ignore Ninja Gaiden DS.
In May, Crosswords($19.99), WiiWare($50.00+), Wii Fit($90.00), and We Ski($29.99).
Also, I have to renew my NP subscription and I have to catch up on games I missed on VC.

Skip Crosswords and We Ski.

Edit - Also, why both versions of Mystery Dungeon 2...?

Crosswords=$20.00!
We Ski= $29.99= Awesome

Edit: Exclusive Pokemon and each game comes with a different gift.
Then again, if I can get one version of the game I would be satisfied.

Crosswords, I think, can be found in the newspaper...

We Ski is getting a pretty "meh" reception, haven't you heard? IGN's impressed, but that's because they thought it'd be another pitiful cash-in.

So wait, you're spending $30 just for exclusive Pokemon...?
