Out of all the former 3D Mario games, which one do you wish was ported to the Switch as an HD Remake. I know Nintendo has no interest into remaking old games, the fact that they cancelled Virtual Console and that they won?t release anymore Classic Edition consoles shows that they need to remake these old Mario games to appeal to those who missed out on the older games and couldn?t get access to them. If they can do it with Zelda (and Pok?mon Yellow), why not Mario?

And yes, Super Mario 3D World is on the poll. It will be just a Switch port and not an HD Remake since it?s already in HD.

In addition to asking for what remake you would want to see, what suggestions do you have to improve these Mario games?

i'd like to see Super Mario Sunshine be remade. i never had a chance to play it, and i've heard great things about it

SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE!!! All the way! :D

Super Mario Sunshine since it was a pretty looking game back in the day (minus some characters lol). Imagine that game running on the Unreal Engine 4 with better water effects and textures.

I guess Super Mario 64 could look good with the UE4 engine as well.

I agree that Sunshine should def get a remake at some point, but i also think that SM64 should be remade as well. SM64DS did that game no justice at all.

yes yes this one was good...also i doubt sm64 would be any better.. i mean sure was revolutionary at its time but i never liked and the DS version was crap.

sunshine is such a nostalgic game for me, id be so happy to see even just a nonremastered vers on switch

I would choose Super Mario Sunshine. Not only it’s my favorite one, but it’s the only one that has never been re-released for digital.

Now if they were to change the games to make them better, here’s what I would say (besides graphics updates):

Super Mario 64 - make levels larger, add more obstacles, separate health from air meter, and more importantly, punish the player if they throw the baby penguin off the cliff.
Super Mario Sunshine - cut back on hidden blue coins, fix some of the hard missions (like that watermelon festival one), add new missions in exchange for blue coins, and give Mario more dialogue.
Super Mario Galaxy - remove prankster comets (but keep purple coin missions), add missions to fill the prankster comet gap, get rid of the harder missions (like that garbage one), and add more platforming.

Well if they did 64 I hope they make the camera and movement better.. also the combat. but throwing penguins are fun :'D

Definitely Super Mario Sunshine, hands down. Nothing else comes even close in terms of needing a remake.

I played the original, but I would love to see it updated as well. :)

Aside from old Zelda games, that is. But I'd love to see a Super Mario 64 HD remake. Especially if they fixed those camera angle problems. Sunshine HD would be great too, but I think SM64 would benefit the most from a remake.

Definitely, one hundred percent, Super Mario Sunshine. I'd say that Super Mario 64 also deserves a remake but at the same time that game kind of bores me nowadays because I've played it so much already.

Super Mario Sunshine never gets old for me though. I think the thing with it is that it did a lot of unique things and took many risks. Many of the features in that game never returned in later games. Sure F.L.U.D.D. has gotten many many appearances outside the game but it has never been used again the way it was in Super Mario Sunshine.

One thing I also enjoyed in the game is that essentially every enemy and character was either new or had a different design compared to what we came to know about them. I think this is also partially because the game came out during a transition period for the Mario franchise. Namely a complete redesign towards the modern Mario cast we know now. I remember there was an interview that Peach's design seen in Mario Sunshine was actually an early design for Peach's modern design now seen in basically all Mario media.

But all this did lead to the game having a very distinct and unique look and feel. It felt like a different place than the ones you've been to before. I'm sure even people who would go and play it for the first time now would say the same thing. And honestly it is very rich in content so all it needs is a graphical upgrade and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It's just that fun and unique!

I mean none of them "need" it, but give me my sunshine switch port

hot take: super mario 64 ds was fine and overall an actual improvement to the original, unless you want to go glitch exploits

the issue lies in the clunky ds control scheme

I don't want to sound like i'm against the old titles, I like them, but I pretty much prefer to them keep continuing the 3D Mario game genre. I'd like to see how the next 3D Mario game will surprise us all this time.

What I mean is, a new title not brought to the series yet, not a remake. Sorry for the confusion.

I want to say Sunshine, but it's still a really good looking game. I think everything from Sunshine onward could be fine with just a simple remastered release...Not that Sunshine wouldn't look fantastic remade, but I can't imagine the difference being that mindblowing.

Mario 64 on the other hand looks like crap, as does Mario 64DS. It's not my favourite 3D Mario game, but I think it would benefit so much more from a remake than any of the other 3D games which still all look great.

I probably should have said Super Mario 64, now that I think about it, as this thread asked about which should be "remade" and not a "port" or "remaster". Otherwise I'd say Sunshine 100%.

Super Mario 64 without a doubt. Looking at that game is making my eyes suicidal.

I would love to have a Super Mario Sunshine remake or port. Although Galaxy would be nice too.

SUNSHINE REMAKE 2020 BABY

In all seriousness, Sunshine was my first 3D mario game, got it with my used Gamecube, with Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Population Growing.
