I’m currently having a debate with a friend about which film out of the four in total is best but we are also trying to rank them in order of best to worst, since this film series is so iconic I thought I’d ask tbt for their opinions!

For me, I’m ranking them as 2, 1, 4, 3

The second film has the most memorable scene and the best remake of ‘I need a hero’ by the fairy god mother, accompanied by a funky town montage and puss in boots, you can’t convince me that this isn’t the best film out of the series

If u haven’t seen ANY of the films then you are an uncultured swine, sort yourself out honestly

The first one. Only the first one. The Fairy Godmother ruined the second one, and I can’t get into the other sequels.

I like your enthusiasm. I have been able to give the last two films my full attention. I do love the musical number you mentioned, as well as John Lithgow as Farquad, and that the first film is a huge middle finger to Disney.

The first one. Only the first one. The Fairy Godmother ruined the second one, and I can’t get into the other sequels.

They were going for moral ambiguity, evil for the greater good, layers man.

The first Shrek is the best. The sequels were okay but none of them came close to being as good as the original.

the first one is absolutely iconic but the second did introduce puss in boots (that scene was hilarious) and that cover of “i need a hero” SLAPPED.

if i had to rank them from favourite to least favourite, i think my order would be 2, 1, 3, 4 lol

The first one is the best, then two. Best to worst literally is in order for this franchise.

i'm biased because shrek 3 was the only shrek film i watched as a kid (it's crazy but i am pretty sure i hadn't seen shrek one until just a month or so ago. yeah.) but the third will always be my number one favorite.

2!!! 2 is fantastic. 1 is great. 4 is strange but not bad. 3 is just straight up bad lol. But overall 2 is just peak cinema.

I only truly liked the first one, but that's probably because I watched it thousands of times on DVD as a kid. The rest was fine but it just didn't match up to the original. It felt like it was overstaying its welcome.

The first one was the best IMO. I actually watched the second one so that one is second for me. Not even going to bother ranking the third and fourth ones as I didn’t watch them and don’t plan on ever watching them. I feel like the quality in the movies went down with each successive sequel.

shrek 2. first of all, the soundtrack. accidentally in love? holding out for a hero? livin la vida loca? funkytown? bops. shrek 2 truly is the standout of the series and you can't convince me otherwise.

my order of preference goes 2, 1, 3 and 4

The first one is super great for how anti-Disney it is throughout the whole plot. The second one is super good for its music imo

Holding Out for a Hero by Fairy Godmother is an experience

Just like onions and ogres, it has layers

The second movie was definitely the best. It's not a perfect movie, but it's a perfect sequel to the original. It was (and still is tbh) actually one of my favorite movies as a kid :D

Shrek 2! Fairy Godmother's sass is everything!

YES OMG I love her character so much lol

Also can we all just agree that this movies version of "I Need a Hero" is absolutely spectacular?

Shrek 1 and 2 are the best!
I recall my parents took me to see Shrek 3 when it came out, but it was just alright I guess... and then I never saw the 4th one! Still haven't, but now I'm curious... :)

I rate the first one as the best, it's iconic.
Then the second as second best.
Three was okay, and I wasn't really a fan of four at all tbh.
