We all think about sports members and famous singers as our role models. However do they really deserve to be a role model. What ever happened to Mom, Dad, and other family members being our #1 role models?

What younger children who aspire to be future sports stars can be mislead. They remember them for what they do during the games but not during press conferences or behind the scenes. For example let's use Terrel Owens. T.O. was a pretty good football player however he was being very greedy with the Eagles. Now where are we? T.O. and McNabb have a huge rivalry however it only makes children and unaware football fans like the sport more. (Now I'm not saying that your a bad person if you disagree. Ever hear of opinions? :))

Normally an average 12 year old doesn't watch the news very often and if they do it's usually ESPN or something like that. How would they know what really happened other than their more aware friends, if they even have any?

On the other side though look at Jackie Robinson. He was one of the greatest baseball members of all times. However do many un-educated people know about him? To them who is more important; someone who is a new in the sports world who causes a bad example or Jackie Robinson. Finally this brings me to the question.

Should role models (in this case sports) be judged on what their performance or how they act overall. (ie Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier)

Discuss.

YB - Discuss your reasoning...

Pichu - That was just my example. You can use your own with your thoughts.

I'm with YB.
If a player is doing really well for their team, it shouldn't really matter what's going on. And vise versa.

Not on their performance at all.

A role model is someone who you can look to for support. But my parents aren't my role models, either. I honestly don't look up to anyone at all, or aspire to be like anyone, because I want to be just me, and go down my own path. Not try to follow someone else's.

So you are saying if you play sports you shouldnt look up to players of that sport?
Well you can look up to the sport and the people however they should never once be a role unless like Gohan said. There are a lot of people who do deserve to be role s. Just some more than others.

This is really wierd...

I sware my family was just talking about that a few days ago, and I couldn't agree more.

*Goes to nominate*

Sport players are unfairly put in the position of where they are expected to be a positive role model. They have their job because of their athletics and talents. Its not up to parents to be the role model but guide their child to pick the right role model.
