Who has figured out the cross pollination of the flowers?

I just started playing this game about a week now. I started to attempt at getting the different color flowers but stopped to play the current flower challenge with the heart bugs. Just finished it up, and am going to again attempt to get the different color flowers. Found out that I am going to have to cross-pollinate different flowers to cause this to happen. Looked up the information and got even more confused and which one needs to be pollinated with another. I am getting several ways of doing things, and it makes no sense to me what so ever.

Is there an easy way of figuring out which color flower is used to pollinate to cause a color change in the seeds produced?

A lot of the hybrids can be created through the basic seeds you get from Lloid. A good place to start is to plant all pansies or tulips, half red, half yellow/orange (depending on the flower type). Once grown, I harvest all but 1 of each color. Then use half the red flowers on each one (half on the red, half on the yellow/orange), and the same for your other flower. You'll get a fair number of regular ones, but you will get hybrid seeds. Once that's done, pick the 2 flowers, top off your seeds from Lloid, and plant 10 and 10 again. Keep doing that and you'll get a fair number of hybrids that you can plant.

I'd wait to cross-pollinate hybrids with one another until you have a fair number of seeds/flowers. It'll make it easier to experiment if you have a group, rather than just one and have to wait for another to grow.

I hope that made sense. Good luck!
