Straying away from the monsters themselves, I'm asking a question about the humans of this franchise! So, who's your favorite gym leader... or trial captain?

For me, it's a tie between Wallace and Sophocles. I love Wallace because I have a thing for sassy or fashion forward dues and his gym is really aesthetically pleasing to me. I love his role in Emerald, too. Not to mention that I have a thing for guys in crop tops. Sophocles is the one that I jokingly call my son. Sure, he's not attractive or remotely good looking, even for his young age, but to me, he looks like a stereotypical 90's kid and I just love that about him.

So, leave your favorites below!

I guess I'll go with Valerie, I like her typing and her outfit is lolita-esque.
She uses Mawile, which is one of my partner's favorite Pokemon. :)

Omg Wallace is so great! Not only is he superbly fashionable, but in each of my playthroughs he has always given me a good challenge, especially with his tank of a Milotic.
I also really like Wattson because he seems to be really quirky and funny, and he's from Mauville which is my favorite city in Hoenn.

Edit: I forgot to mention the gym leader from Gen 4 who uses rock type Pokemon. I can't remember his name but I always thought he was really cute lol ;w;

For me, it's Misty!

As a child, I adored her character. I felt like I could relate so much to her. Misty taught me to embrace my tomboyish side but also admire girly things--basically, just be yourself. Her character was so fleshed out from her temper, romantic side, confidence, and insecurities.

Her backstory about wanting to prove herself to her sisters and wanting to improve the Cerulean Gym's reputation resonated with me. She was a character who started out being so angry and critical; it was obvious her upbringing heavily contributed to that, given that her sisters were greatly admired for their beauty and talent. In the anime, she was ignored and ridiculed by her sisters unless Misty was needed to do them favors. Flashbacks showed she was only given hand me downs and was neglected as an infant. In the Japanese version of the anime, Misty would call herself "the world famous beauty". While that would seem vain, it became noted she told herself that to maintain her confidence and strong sense of self. Once she met Ash and Brock, that anger and bitterness slowly started to fade. Her character development and journey allowed Misty to open up and become friendlier and more compassionate (but still maintain her sarcasm and tomboyish side), show off her passion for water types, and learned that it's okay to feel insecure at times. In later seasons, her temper is shown for those who deserve it & her relationship with her sisters (mostly Daisy) start to improve. She refers to Ash and Brock as her family and becomes fiercely protective of her Pok?mon and friends (especially Ash).

For those reasons, Misty has a very special place in my heart and is still my favorite character of all time.

sorry for the mini essay ahjsdk ; I also hardcore collect her merchandise so it's been a blast finding new and old things.

I really appreciate Sabrina and Blaine, but that's probably because of how they're portrayed in the games as well as the anime. They both have interesting personalities and their battle styles were intriguing to me as a kid (and still are to this day). I find myself admiring the newer gym leaders just because of how they are in-game vs. game and anime. Maybe this means I just need to watch more of the anime past the Johto region lol.

Olivia because she is hands down the prettiest character in a pokemon game so far. She slays my entire life.

Going to go with Volkner because I started Pokemon with generation four and he’s a really tough gym leader if you’re not prepared for him, which makes beating him even more rewarding. I also like how the show handled him being depressed and then being inspired by Ash and Flint to be a gym leader again. It was a nice twist that hadn’t really been done before.

Whitney for sure. She may have been challenging, but she was always the one I liked the most.

I find most of the gym leaders really forgettable x_x I had to google them as a refresher just to remember which ones are my favorites LoL all I could think of for sure was Giovanni/Blue and Misty.

Anyway my favorite is Grant! Love his design and he has two little dinosaurs aw (which also made his gym kind of challenging which I liked) Honorable mentions to Erika, Lenora, Wallace and Claire~

I like a lot...
Whitney is a big fav tho. She's so cute! I feel bad everytime I battle her and she loses then cries. >:
I also have a bit of crush on her lol.
ERIKA IS ANOTHER COOL GYM LEADER. Really pretty.
I love her aesthetic, her gym's theme. Valerie is another cutie!
I guess my fav gym leaders are mostly cute girls with types I like. normal, fairy, grass and so on.
Morty is pretty cool too and I really like Clemont too! OH I KNOW ANOTHER FAV! CANDICE! SHES REALLY COOL. (pun intended)

I've never really given it much consideration since characters in Pok?mon don't generally get all that fleshed out. That said, there are some that I like more than the rest.

Listed in the order I encountered them rather than any sort of ranking:

Misty: More for her anime portrayal than much of anything from the games, to be honest.

Erika: Compared to the rest, not a whole lot to say about her actually. Grass is my favorite type, and Erika's the most memorable of the Grass-type Gym Leaders for me. Also, the Rainbow Badge looks nice, probably the best looking badge in the series to date.

Sabrina: Growing up watching the anime while playing the games, Sabrina stood out amongst her peers due to her demeanor. I also like the Psychic type a lot (though it's not my absolute favorite), so she's all good in my book.

Wallace: His fashion sense is great, he's fun to battle against, and he's a real standout in Hoenn due to his roles in the stories of the games he's in.

Burgh: Bug Pok?mon are good as far as I'm concerned and made for interesting Gym designs, he was helpful, and he has a nice design himself. It's a shame that Lurantis was part of a later generation and that it's just strictly a Grass-type Pok?mon, because Burgh with a Lurantis just feels right.

Elesa: Nice design in the original Black & White, her Gym layouts were fun, and she encourages people to embrace differences in others in Black 2/White 2. One of the stronger reasons to like a Gym Leader for me, so she's up there near the top.

Clay: To be honest, he's not one of my favorites on his own. He's mostly forgettable. That said, he encourages people to keep an open mind and try to see things from perspectives aside from their own. That's a good message, and Clay's merely the vehicle they chose to convey it through. So, yeah.

Olympia: More for her Gym's layout than for her, to be honest. Anistar City's Gym is just really neat. That said, her outfit looks nice, especially that cape.

Wulfric: Just a really good polar bear of a man who looks after abused and abandoned Pok?mon in the Pok?mon Village.

Olivia: Her design is just fantastic. I also like that she owns the jewelry/accessory store in Konikoni City, since that's a neat little place and because it adds some more "realism" I suppose. Also, I mean, if anyone is going to be the owner of that store then it would be her, just look at all of her accessories.

Nanu: One of the best personalities not only in Sun & Moon but in the entire series, he actually has some backstory, and and he uses Dark-type Pok?mon. Really good.

Looking back at all the gym leaders makes me want to play the games again~might even change my mind on them after playing the games again.

Gotta say Brock would be one of my favs, he always has been. Mainly the anime but he's also the first gym.
Sabrina but mainly for the anime, her episode was the best. That doll was still very freaky.

Brawley - I always seemed to have trouble with him and I think it was strategy that made it difficult but I always liked the look of him as well.
Winona - She looks so beautiful and I believe her gym design/layout we had to go through was so fun!

I found Morty's gym to be quite fun and he was a ghost gym! Love the ghosts X3 Also thought Jasmine was cute and her having steel types was quite interesting. And maybe a bit difficult cause I don't think there was a lot of fire types in that region.

Despite Brock being the number one rock gym, I really liked Roark as well. Seemed real nice and had his own mining business going on.
I love Garenia, her interest with the old mansion was really interesting and theories are clogging my mind. I bet she would of loved to have Phantump/Trvenant on her team.
Loved Fantina to death, even though I think I struggled on her gym. Her battle spirit and her accent was rewarding enough.
Volker for the last gym was really fun too.

Lenora - was a nice battle in a gym full of books~I love her tough attitude, a tough mum to us all.
Wasn't too fond of Burgh but his gym was so fun! I loved going through the sticky honey, I could do it forever XD
Elasa - Her gym was tough for me, but I loved her anyways. Loved when she through her coat off.
Also have to add Roxie, she was adorable and I wish I could just sit in her gym and listen to her jam out for ages.

Viola's gym wasn't just fun, but she's a photographer like me so I adored her straight away. It's a shame she was the first gym in a way, kinda wanna see beast mode bugs at higher levels.
Valerie looked like she was a pokemon, she was so beautiful and first fairy gym!

HOW COULD I FORGET HER OMFG...I LOVE HER TOO.
Also fun fact, in the original Japanese version, we share a name. ;v;

Ohooo, even cooler. But yeah I think a lot of those are kinda forgotten unless it's someone super popular.

If you manage to get your rank up at the Battle Chateau, you can rematch the Gym Leaders. Viola still isn't that hard, but her Vivillon does know Powder.. which is more than annoying lol.

Oh wow, I didn't know you could rematch them~! Kinda like platinum, I'm sure you could rematch them as well.
