Why do people have OC's?

I know this isn't the correct place to post but people here have OC's and I was just curious

Why do people have OC's, what's the point? How do you go about making them? What are they for? I have a few OC's but I haven't designed them properly and they're characters from a book I'm writing...

It's not for everyone but it's fun to make up their stories and designs. Plus seeing art made for your character feels nice lol
All you do is design their outfit, personality, etc

There are authors, role-players, day-dreamers. Some people enjoy inventing stories of others, some people to imagine themselves in their own ideal form, some just enjoy creating! For me it's a bit of everything. I haven't written or roleplayed since starting college, but I like to use them to practice art and design. It's just a lot of fun to create <3

I like to RP as mine and people often LOVE ocs if they are into drawing, writing, animating, acting etc.

You can cosplay as them, see visual pictures of them (it's really cool to see your own character in someone else's style), write stories for them, as well as roleplaying, you can animate them and anything really.

They are basically just the same as characters like Spongebob, Batman, and Pikachu.

Mine are from my novel so they've essentially become a big part of who I am. Personally I think it's fun to have a character that you can call your own.

You don't really need a reason besides wanting to draw/fantasize some character that you made up yourself. I like drawing OCs even though I'm probably never going to make some sort of profile or story about them. They are just fun to design.

people just like to create their own characters. personally I prefer doing fanart and sometimes drawing other people's ocs even though I do have ocs of my own

I have OCs because I like to dabble in character design and my OCs are the results of that.
