Why Sanrio and not new characters??

i think it's because there aren't enough new villagers for a new amiibo series

whereas with sanrio amiibos, nintendo is probably just restocking the cards rather than bringing the actual characters back

so it's most likely a way to get more money, which is weird because they'd get so much money from a raymond amiibo

If they rebranded the amiibos for New Horizons, they could just redo all the series and fit the new villagers in.

Please tell me about Nintendo's choice to issue new amiibo

... but not the missing amiibos for ACNH villagers

Is this the only release planned?

Is it a marketing or demand thing?
This will be a bit out there, but what if they're randomly inserted in the Sanrio packs? I used to collect baseball cards, and can recall vividly when Topps inserted Kris Bryant Bowman Chrome autos in the Bowman Inception product without telling the collecting world. Imagine the surprise and jubilation when people started opening packs and posting their hits. It created such a frenzy, and Topps did very little to no marketing for it at all.

Tl;dr: The new characters could be secretly randomly inserted in Sanrio packs, and there is precedence.

Maybe its because they're planning on including the furniture sets too? The new NH villagers dont have furniture sets so they might not think it's worth it

that would mean bringing back RVs unless nintendo does it differently like makes the sanrio furniture craftable or brings in a new npc u can unlock it from

i doubt that'll happen but i do really want the furniture back, especially the kiki & lala set 💕

it's possible that they're reissuing a lot of old amiibos to check if the demand is still there for amiibo cards in general. i've seen a few reports on how amiibo figurines and cards are selling quite a lot less now that the 3DS is no longer in production, so i think nintendo are being more careful and checking that they can actually sell their products.

the hopeful and naive part of me is totally hoping that this is just a pre-cursor to them eventually doing a season 5? 6? of AC amiibos with new NPCs and villagers where they add a ton of new villagers through it like they did with the RV update for NL, but i don't think that will happen any time soon, lol!

i've never bought amiibo cards. i thought about it when the welcome amiibo update came out but the card were expensive and i'd have to buy a card reader too. this time around i never thought about it at all. i'm glad they are bringing these back because my friend just recentky asked me about chai, chelsea and etoile so i'm glad shell be able to get them

It would be cool if they made removed villagers return using new amiibo cards. Some old villagers looked really cool!

My hope is there will be more new villagers added with a 2.0 update, and then maybe after that they'll release a new set of amiibo cards for all the new ones.

i agree! i know there are some really popular villagers in the big group that haven't been seen since animal forest a+. the first pair that comes to mind is meow and bow, that little cat and dog duo with the LCD screens for faces! i hope it could happen one day, since the RV cards in NL were super popular and villagers like dobie are now fan favourites.

Does this mean we can amiibo in Etoile and the others?

I had Etoile in NL. :)

Thoughts about the Sanrio series have been haunting me all day. So I just wanted to share my thoughts.

First, I believe furniture items from Sanrio is unlikely unless a new mechanic is introduced specifically for Sanrio. There is presently no mechanic to receive furniture from scanned Amiibos. The only avenue I can think of is if they give you special DIYs in the tents but I find that unlikely.

Second, I am hopeful and a believer that we will get the Sanrio villagers and be able to invite them to live on the island. My reasons for believing this are that the villager photo entries are present in the game already, but nulled out, as well as their character IDs. However, one argument against this happening is there is no blank space for their villager icon (the icon you see when using the map), so it's hard to say for sure.

I will be very upset if we do not receive the villagers themselves and the Amiibo cards are used to get what ultimately amounts to an ultra rare JPEG: the posters. Also, if we do get the villagers, I anticipate they will not be adoptable, just like in New Leaf. You will have to own the Amiibo to invite the villager and that will be the only way.

I hope this is the case. They said they're going to release more information later, but best case scenario is new villagers AND a new set for each villager. A pretty tall order, but I'd be really excited if that was the case.

I don't want that many more villagers tbh, or we're just going to end up in a Pokemon scenario all over again.

Remember when Sword/Shield announced some Pokemon won't be returning? Fans were furious, because no matter who they ended up cutting, someone's favorite was going to get cut. If AC keeps adding new villagers we're going to end up in the same place as Pokemon.

I agree that we're already at 400 something villagers, and I think anything near or over 500 would be overkill...

BUT, reading through this thread does make me think about the 2.0 update and what they could be planning for that. It's inevitably going to be where they bust out the big guns right? I could see the Nook upgrade, Brewster, and maybe even new villagers being rolled out with that one..
