Is there anyway we can get a sticky with general rules for visiting other towns? People new to the game or wifi might not be aware of basic etiquette when visiting others towns. Personally I've already had some issues with visitors that have taken hybrids and clearing out flowers and fruit of their choosing like it's nothing.

1. Ask before taking anything.
2. If leaving another town only leave through the train station, do not disconnect. This ends the session for all players.

Also possibly having a blacklist for members that have repeatedly broke rules so people don't make the same mistake? Or is this all overkill and unnecessary?

I like the idea of having wifi etiquette rules, but I also know from experience of my old group, that even with rules posted, not everyone follows them, which is why I especially like the "Blacklisted" idea. I also know from experience that this is a great way to warn others of those who have repeatedly been abusive in others towns.

Of course it should require repeat abuse to get someone added to the list and detailed info of their behavior and especially if it was witnessed by others or evidence is shown. I remember multiple sites using this type of system to help users to not only avoid accidentally adding abusive visitors, but also to avoid game hackers who used to corrupt others towns.

While looking around the site tonight I found a thread that covers this topic but unfortunately the title gives no hint as to its purpose so that is why I have over looked it all this time.

OakRidge Brigade (New Leaf Branch) is the thread that has a blacklist on it. (none for new leaf yet) but there is a spot for it. Im not sure why it is hidden away under such an obscure title though.

I completely agree. That's why I thought it'd be a good idea just to have a sticky at the top of the forum with basic guidelines and a blacklist. The entire nature of the Train Station forum is meeting up with new people so it just seems like a good idea to have a few basic rules that everyone sees. I did see the Oak Tree thread but it's kind of a mess.

I've seen at least 3 threads so far about people saying guests from this forum have stolen items from them.

I've had someone come into my town, go straight for hybrids, run around with a shovel looking for the money rock, try and dig up my fossils, then disconnect ending the session. really? -_-

the items themselves aren't a big deal, but it's just a matter of principle and common courtesy

Yeah, I love people taking out shovels hitting rocks. Jokes on them, already emptied all my rocks.

As for etiquette there are a lot of gray areas because many people have different styles of playing. Some people don't mind if you reek havoc in their town and those are the ones likely to do the same to your town. Other people have a looooong list of rules that range from "no running" to "No taking ANYTHING, including fruit"

I think my personal main suggestion is "Get to know people a bit BEFORE you wifi with them" Make sure you are playing with people who have similar playing styles as you do.

Blacklisting can become "he said-she said" and therefore ruin someone who is otherwise a good person's chance to wifi again because of a simple misunderstanding of play style.

I think it is a good idea to establish a set of "rules" before you play with someone. This way they are well aware of how you like to play. I remember playing CF with a very young kid who loved people to come to his town, smash rocks, cut down trees and run all over the place! He actually enjoyed this play style. I let him know my rules ahead of time and he was very respectful since they were already "laid out" for him.

I'm all for giving people the benefit of the doubt but of course there are players who just want to set out to destroy and steal. Hence the "getting to know" someone a bit before wifi.

To echo what Bambi said, a rule list doesn't really work because everyone plays differently in their town. Both this and setting up a blacklist simply alienates players from the website and can easily cause forum drama and arguments over who did or didn't do what.

The point is, the forum isn't here to dictate what you can and can't do in other's towns. It is up to you who you invite to your town and therefore your responsibility to set up rules and make sure who you're letting into your town is somebody who has the same playstyle in mind as you.

Even if we had blacklists and rules on the website, inviting a complete stranger into your town is still a recipe for disaster. At the very least make sure you PM them or something beforehand so that they know the rules you'd like them to obey when visiting.
