Wouldn't it be awesome if someone developed this?

I think it would be incredibly useful if someone developed a Chrome extension that gives you a desktop notification whenever you get a VM or PM (maybe even a reply to your forum post) on TBT.

This way you could be multitasking/playing something else while you wait for a response from someone, and not be incredibly late when you get tired of the game/switch programs. Or something like that.

But that would take away the fun and excitement of refreshing the page to see you have a notification, to know that your existence in this world is just significant enough to warrant another persons attention and or needs. Or if it's just an NPC and you feel sad again-

Uhhh...I didn't know people valued that. Personally I find it pretty annoying and repetitive that I keep having to refresh at random intervals to see if the person I was talking to responded, and that I could still be very early or incredibly late.

And also the chance that by the time you even see the message the person could be offline doesn't make it any better.

And it's not like everyone would need to download it. It wouldn't be an implemented feature on the website; just for people that would want to use something like this (like me) that use Google Chrome (I'm hoping most users), who could just download it on their own will.

you know the users online page has auto refresh every 2 mins, so at least if you get a PM you'll get the pop up once it refreshed and automatically be taken to that tab

well you can also go to settings and get tbt to email you if you get a private message so

Alright, fair enough. But again, what if you're multitasking, or focusing on something else? You might be doing school work, or playing a game. The tab won't be visible, so there will be no way to find out if someone replied to you except for constantly checking the tab every 2 minutes.

That's pretty inconvenient if you ask me.

No one checks their email every 2 minutes. Yes, you can just have the email auto refresh, but then you'd have to open the email, see what it says, then navigate to that page.

I was thinking that when the notification appears, if you click on it, it takes you right to the conversation; a visitor wall, a forum post, a PM, whatever.

Also, personally I don't want to get my email spammed with "_____ sent you a private message!" every 5 minutes. I want to see my older messages, especially if there's something important there.

notifications pop up when i get emails (on windows 8.1), but I don't use this feature, because it seems easier to see that I have a notification when I am browsing tbt anyway- and if you think it's hard to do when you are multitasking with school work maybe leave the online trading for later, get off tbt and do your school work because education is important and the children are the future

1) it pops up (if you have PM pop-ups enabled), so when you get a PM, you'll get the pop up, and be automatically taken to that page if you're in the browser, no matter waht tab you're viewing. If you're not using that window, then the icon at the bottom will flash orange
2) yes, no one checks their email every 2 minutes, but if you have a smart phone you can have it push through emails from a certain sender, so have it push through emails from TBT and it'll notify you every time you get a PM
3) not to be rude but that's the best you're going to get as of right now, so stop complaining.

I made a third post after you wrote that it seems, please read it.

Alright, I guess school work was a bad example, but I wasn't been literal. I was just giving different scenarios to prove my point. The game example is still valid.

If I want to play, let's say, Team Fortress 2 with friends while waiting for someone to respond to my PM, I want to get an instant notification without TBT spamming my email with notifications.

Complaining?? Boy, this escalated quickly.

I'm not complaining. I'm just giving a simple suggestion.

I don't have a smartphone. Yes, laugh all you want at me. And I have no idea how to do that, and I bet a lot of people do not either. I understand that I can search it up on the internet, but wouldn't it be much simpler if you could just install this and it would be ready right after?

Where does it pop up? On your desktop? I've never heard of this feature, can you please explain how this works?

EDIT: Really? "delivering the smackdown"? We're not arguing, by the way. I'm stating my opinion, he's stating his. I respect his fully. Stop being immature.

maybe complaining wasn't the right choice of word, but you seem to be demanding something that quiet simply can't be done, or isn't available right now, and when people gave you suggestions to help your issue, you quickly shot them down.

to get the pop up thing, go to settings (in tbt) > account settings >general settings and scroll down when you see "New Private Message Notification Pop-up:" and check "Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up"
next time you get a PM you will see what it does, and from that, as I said before, no matter waht tab you have open in the browser, you'll be taken to that tab automatically, since the pop up overrules other tabs, and if you don't have your browser physically open (by physically open I mean open, but not viewing - ofc it wont work if you havent opened the browser), the window icon at the bottom will flash orange. Give it a try

Yeah, just figured that out. I'm guessing it doesn't work for VMs, though (I VM more than I PM). Well, I'm learning how to code soon, maybe I'll try to develop a notifier myself :p

EDIT: It can be done easily, it just requires work.

Yea, doesn't work for VMs, only PMs. I tend to use PM's a lot more simply because of the pop up thing, which makes it 10x easier.

But then again, I've never really liked the idea of VMs anyway, don't really like my profile being spammed with pointless messaged.

I can probably just switch habits from VMing to PMing people for now. I'll try to buy something today from someone and see if the notifications work.

how does waiting for one reply via pm, which would result in one email = tbt spamming your email?

I'm very active on TBT, so I'm going to get a lot more than one PM a day.

if your very active on tbt, wouldn't you easily see when you have a notification then?

I thought the whole point of what your saying is if you dont have tbt open all the time???

I'm active, but I don't spend my entire day on TBT. When I get bored of browsing the forums, I often switch to a game. When I get a response, I reply back to them and continue the game.

Okay so if you don't spend your entire day on TBT then why worry about PMs?

This exists already you know. I assume you have a smartphone? Then just set it so your e-mail app instantly notifies you of the a PM you get. Depending on your e-mail, the e-mails just stack so you only have one single thing to delete.

Coding something that I doubt many people would use seems a bit of a waste of time.
