  • Also, instead of just learning all of the readings after I memorize their stroke order and radicals/pieces, I think I'll try and learn some vocab afterwards. Specifically: ones that use the kanji I just learned.

I think it sounds like a good plan, because on top of learning a new word, I'll also learn one way that that character can be read, and potentially new kanji that weren't in the jouyou/JLPT lists. :)
    (Pt.2)

And with the radicals out of the way, I'll be able to quickly recognize kanji, without confusing them with another, similar looking character.

So even though I'll only know one English definition for each kanji I learned, learning it's readings and definitions will be simpler, because I already know what the character looks like, it's stroke order, it's radical, and the other parts it's made up of.
What I wanted to do was start with a few kanji a day (either the jouyou kanji or JLPT kanji - probably the latter since it would likely contain most, if not all of the jouyou kanji, anyway) - say maybe 20, and choose one English word to associate each individual kanji with.

It doesn't sound like much.. But I already tried the hard way - trying to memorize every kanjis on and kun readings, along their English meanings, stroke order, etc.

Needless to say, that was waaay more than I could chew. lol. So I've decided to try again, but take smaller "bites" this time.

I figure that, by the time I memorize the stroke order for a couple hundred or so kanji, even if I'm only focusing on a single radical for each kanji, I'll learn to recognize all of the different radicals eventually because I'll run into kanji that has the radical that was a "piece" of a kanji I've already learned. (cont'd)
Oh I stopped doing the shop thing, haha.. It lost popularity the second day. :p (it was a hassle to keep up with when it was popular, anyway)

Anyway, my question is: do you know of a site, or application, or really anything that highlights the radical of each kanji?

    Like this:

I have plenty of resources that let you "build" a kanji, using multiple radicals, which is really useful - but not what I'm looking for right now.
I also have sites bookmarked that tell you whatever kanji you inputs' radical - also useful. But again... Not what I'm looking for.

The reason I want something like this is for some kanji, I can't spot the radical anywhere.
I'll look at my online dictionary that tells me what the radical is, but I just can't find the shape within the kanji.
Hey Kiyo :) I noticed your user title is in Japanese, and was wondering if you speak the language?

If you do, would you mind if I asked you something?

I'm trying to teaching myself Japanese (with the help of the internet), and even though I've collected a ton of useful resources (Thank the lawd for Google), there are still some things that I need help with.
Hello! You wanted the Steep Hill music box. It's still available. Let me know when you're ready to trade and which town you would prefer to do the trade in. ^^
Its messy hair and could you make the hair white so. It matches the beard and no shovel thx
Hey there! I'm back. Had to get all my kids to get their kitchen chores done too before it got too late. I'm ready whenever you are. I'll be waiting at the gate :)
Hey hey. I've got to run to the store shortly. But I'll be back in 15 minutes if we can't trade pretty soon.
