Have you had any villagers move out recently who were not adopted? That means your game might still have them in the system memory, and they can move into someone else's town. To prevent this, you can visit someone's town who has 10 villagers, and that should "clear" any villagers out of your void ^_^

Aw, thanks! My aunt is much better, actually. I will be able to be on more tomorrow night and probably more consistently than I am now, which is on and off as she needs things and keeps calling for me. But she's really going to be okay, thank goodness. I'll VM you tomorrow and give you what I have found so far. Not bad for sporadic looking, I have to say. I think you'll be pleased.
