  • Ah, that makes two of us whose family is mostly in the Philippines. Can't see them nearly enough. I wish it was easier to have family visit here in the States, too.
Aw, man, I hope your grandmother gets much better.

Cool that you're going to the Philippines. I hope you have a lot of fun. I got to see Bacolod, Manila, Sipalay, and more. I'll be curious to know what you got to see. I never saw Cebu, for instance, but maybe you will.
Hey, for the flower bouget, pumpkinpie, coffee cup, turkey, and brewster gyroid 13k, can tou come to mine town, please?
Oh, no, I was born in and live in southern California, but I have visited the Philippines on numerous occasions, most recently last year to visit my ailing grandmother. A lot of money was withdrawn for a quick trip to help family, but there was a happy ending: grandma was doing well again and we got to see a lot of family.

My mom is definitely a better cook than she realizes, and she's a big fan of fish. She is definitely partial to tilapia, but also likes mackerel and salmon. I couldn't get her to eat a catfish last night, though. (Oh, well, more for me.)
Oh, I have nothing against anyone who shies away from meat; I really should be cutting down, in fact. My mom is not a vegetarian but she tries to rely on vegetables and use meat sparingly, and this reflects on her Filipino dishes, such as a sinigang that uses a little bit of fish and a lot of bok choy. She also likes to prepare a dish that uses some shrimp with okra, eggplant, spinach, etc. I love both, and have them with plenty of rice. I had to look up lumpia. I've heard the word used a lot but never really connected it to... what appears to be eggrolls. I know how to make those to, and enjoy them with sweet sauce and rice.
Ah, OK. Thanks. Yeah, that's how it was for me, too. I originally spoke my native tongue but had it beaten out of me in school. I had to relearn how to speak it. Did your mother or father ever make adobo or pansit?
By the way, maybe I'm just sucking at reading comprehension at this hour, but what do you mean by "I'm Fil- am"?
It's an interesting experience going to my mom's birthplace and everyone thinking I'm from India. A lot of my family and friends don't even know that I'm fluent in Ilonggo, so they speak more freely about me in Tagalog, thinking that their thoughts are private, heh. It's a fun game only I know I'm playing, and a little messed up.
