    I think you were looking at what some of the people posted orz, they make screenies of this site called imvu[love the avatars but people suck on there], and they just use that for a character they're making as well since its a endless possibility of fashion and creativity. It's just a visual ref when they're ordering along with other things to help them create a oc.
    Here's a example of a oc I'm making that I used off imvu;
    It took me awhile to think of how to make him cause the tattttooooos are amazing on there

    or how my friend and I made her;

    you just need a ref of your oc, like REFFFSS, if you're not prepared
    so say you have a oc but they're not too complete, you'll add visual refs to your stash so they'll know what to look at, say you put clothing in your stash that you think your oc will wear, they will just look through that and draw your character in their outfit wardrobe orz
    or more refs for like hair and stuff but just be descriptive
