    Did you watered them? If not, then this is mostly why you lost them. If you had visitors at that time, one of them probably stole them from you.
    Otherwise, it might be a glitch...

    If your Internet Connection drops out, then the download will be interrupted and will resume as soon you attempt downloading it now again or put into sleep mode (if you decide downloading it later). That means you won't have to purchase the game again just to redownload a game.

    It depends on the size of the game. ACNL is probably bigger than the one you're downloading.

    I have no idea, but it's possible to redownload the game from the eshop, so if you lose the connection and your money, you should still be able to download it without paying again.

    I don't know the exact filesize for Tomodachi Collection New Life, but I believe that if they didn't added a lot of content, it would be probably smaller than ACNL. But then, I could be wrong.

    It depends on how fast is your Internet. The game is sized around 710MB (which is 5655 blocks). Mine has 512kb/s, so I managed to download it in around 45 minutes.

    Well, it's there to let you check for updates without going through eShop again. Pretty convenient, if you ask me.
