"How the hack works

Through putting files onto your SD card and using the web exploit, it’s possible to make a copy of your town’s save file and put it onto your SD card. In the ACNL hacking community this is called dumping a ram. (Dumping is self explanatory. The RAM is a name for the actual game’s save data, as it is in the form of a .ram file.)

Once you’ve made whatever change to your ram file, you can then inject it back into your town so that it overwrites your town’s current ram file. (This is known as injecting.) I think it’s worth noting that this is exactly how you create back ups of your town. At any time you’ll able to make a copy of your entire town’s save data and store it onto your PC, which you’ll be able to inject back into your town whenever you want. "
