If Nintendo is covering the repair costs, you could send it in and get it fixed up. Game data may or may not be able to be saved, but you'll build yourself up again, and it could be fun! This way, you can get a new iPod/iPhone as you've always wanted. You can always go back to saving afterwards and get a new N3DS later on; they might even release more colours and what not in the future
