What are your comments on the recent disaster in Hawaii? Not to long ago, the volcano, which was erupting for the past few days, had exploded.

To me, this story seems grim. Judging by what I hear, it may be as bad as Krakatoa, but we have to wait for results.

Nothing really to say about it other than it?s very tragic and devastating for Big Island residents and the wild life there. I know there?s some people who didn?t have insurance but I hope the majority did. Luckily there have been no injuries or deaths. My heart breaks for them it will take months and months before the lava cools to basaltic rock. But from what I?ve read they have treated it with great respect and they are accepting what Madame Pele has given them. Though I don?t really believe in the spiritual side of that, it seems that it has prepared them and they can accept it with a little positivity.

There's a super volcano just sitting waiting to blow in Yellowstone national park that could cover most of the USA, things like this could happen at any time

My thoughts: there's not a lot you can do about it. The volcano in Hawaii is known to be one of the most active volcanoes in the world, yet people choose to live near it, it should have been expected to happen.

Yeah, I think people have been warned about the eruption before it happened. They did this with Mount St Helens in 1980 too, hence why only 57 deaths and no more. Hopefully we have no deaths after this eruption.

Should've been an eruption in California or Texas or Florida or Britain some other gross place, Hawaii is cute and doesn't deserve it.

Ouch! Cali and Texas have had their fair share of fires already! And Florida had like 2 hurricanes! But no place deservations catastrophic damage! Especially to the wildlife there, humans.. To an extent yes. Humans are terrible to wildlife, but then again mother nature is terrible to humans as well lol.

Texas has Republicans
California has vegans
Florida has old ppl who r gonna die anyway
Britain is just bad, the say words like "fanny" and "sket". Also Dan and Phil live there and it would be funny to see them die in a volcanic eruption.

I think we should just agree to disagree though ^-^ Have kawaii day.

i am the farthest thing from a republican but like

there's republicans in every state? lol

there's also vegans everywhere lol i'm an animal activist who has been adopting the vegan lifestyle for a while now and i live nowhere near california

though i don't know who dan and phil are so i guess i could care less about lol

You must live in a very small world ^.^ But yes I do agree. Texas' republicans make a lot of Texans lives bad. To the other statements, every place has those kinds of people lol. You should learn to see that or you'll be dissappointed anywhere you go and not want to live anymore or live at all... Unfortunately. You just have to learn to live with those people or not deal with them eben if they are your next door neighbor.

Are you saying you live in Texas? ^.^

If it was going to be as bad as Krakatoa there sure as hell wouldn't be anyone within viewing distance of the Hawaiian islands as they would be obliterated and smothered with pyroclastic flows from the eruption. I personally find it tragic that people have suffered from this event but I guess that's what happens when you build a civilisation around an opening to the center of the earth :/

No matter where you go, you're in a more disaster prone region. We have volcano disasters near volcanoes, but here are the others:

- California is in a fire zone
- The Great Plains is a tornado zone
- The Gulf Coast is more prone to hurricanes
- The Southwest is more prone to drought
- The Mississippi River cities are more prone to flooding

Of course, if there are two likely disasters we would fear most, they would be:

- The Yellowstone Supervolcano eruption
- Doomsday Asteroid strike on the Earth

But let's not worry about that. They are rare anyway.

I realise that ^-^

I'm just saying that's life. It's like all of those American city's around the SA fault, there will inevitably be a major earthquake and loss of life and that's just what happens when you live there.

Like here in New Zealand we all live near fault lines so when an earthquake happens it causes destruction.

I guess I'm saying building around active volcanoes is a bit worse, here in New Zealand we don't have much civilisation near our active volcanoes. We have like one small town and some ski fields. I would say Hawaii is like if America built a city inside the yellow stone caldera, while the choices for building there might have been valid, disaster is inevitable.

But that's life. Please don't mistake me for making harmful judgements on the good people of Hawaii, I only wish them the best, just pointlessly stating the obvious here as im saying what's on my mind ^-^

Those who do not regard life with happiness, especially human life, are the saddest, most despicable of people.

That said, with technology being upgraded all the time and new inventions being made, it IS possible to block off volcanoes with walls and systems that reduce lava’s damage.... to nothing.

Then of course you still have the problem of toxic gas spreading, but there are scientific ways to stop that in its tracks.

The problem with humans (if you stop reading here, go ahead, but you’ve lost my respect in that case), is we accept everything as it is. We don’t consider possibilities to save more lives and to improve the world. We just.... let things happen, and that is the saddest and most cruel reality of all. We are our own worst enemies.

Do we deserve to die because of it? No. We deserve to die if we don’t get smarter about protecting the only world we have as home.

I would surely be impressed with the day we can halt pyroclastic flows ^-^

(No sarcasm intended)

Give scientists and innovation enough time, and we will. When humans work together on a project or task, they are capable of anything.

On one hand I?m like, you guys live on a volcano. On another I recognie is foreign soil & we?ve been messing with the Earth a lot lately.

Part of the issue isn’t if we can, but if we should. For example, we used to think completely stopping wildfires was a good thing. Now we realize we screw over the natural environment like that. It’s meant to burn. It’s built to burn. We did more damage prevent wildfires, and it switched to controlled burns.

What a small minded thing to say.

Nowhere deserves such a disastrous event.

Especially for the reasons he stated. If you truly believe that an entire group should die, you are a bigot, even if it's a group based on beliefs.

I made the same mistake on GameFAQs two years ago. I'm not going to repeat it, nor do I want anyone repeating it.
