People have been wanting and requesting a dark mode for years and that's why it was a good April Fool's prank. Maybe it will happen someday, but no amount of requests have affected anything so far. If there were serious plans to implement it, it probably would have happened on April 2nd after the brightness prank was removed. Guess it's not impossible that it might come in the next Bell Tree Direct or something, but I wouldn't advise getting your hopes up.

One potential hurdle is that there's a subforum that shows up on Friday the 13ths throughout the year and during the Halloween season in October called The Woods, which is darker. The Woods might lose some of its unique visual appeal if there was simply a dark mode available on the forums at all times.

That said, there are plans to bring back cycling from TBT 2.0 (we're currently on 3.0 after an forum upgrade last year) where the forum will look different over the course of the day, like getting darker at night, plus seasons. So, if you browse the forums at night, that could be something to look forward to.

For sure! I love dark modes and use always use them if they are available. They are just easier on my eyes since I'm on my computer so often (or playing video games). I recently tried an early version of a forced dark mode for every website on google chrome but since it was not fully released it was pretty buggy and made some sites not usable. But the concept is cool, since you'd be able to darken websites that don't offer dark mode.

At this time we have no plans of implementing a dark theme. We still haven't finished developing our current theme! See our announcement in the Bell Tree Direct - 3.20.21 about the upcoming return of the day/night cycle and rotating seasons.

dark reader is a chrome extension that forces dark mode on all sites and i find it works really well, only time i see image glitches (like negative colours) is on best buy

I actually fell for that prank because I forgot what day it was! I was very excited. A dark mode would be an amazing feature, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon unfortunately.
