recreating pokemon in acnh - project johto 💎

hello and welcome to this small little journal where i show you how i try to recreate johto from pokemon in animal crossing!
first of all, why am i doing this? because pokemon is one of my favorite games and generation 2 is my absolute favorite!
i want to recreate some of the towns of johto and the overall pokemon feel. i still want to decorate like i usually do so it won't be a 1:1 copy because the towns are rather empty but i will always use them as reference. if you dont know a lot about pokemon or johto, dont worry! i will always add reference photos so you can hopefully see the similarities.

my town rep is called Crystal and inspired by Kris from Pokemon Crystal.
i just like her more than Lyra because she is the very first Pokemon protagonist i played
and she looks pretty cool too!

the villagers i chose for this island all either represent a gym leader or a building i want to recreate!​

Ace: representing gym leader Falkner.
blue bird with the same vibes as him. perfect fit!

Frobert: representing gym leader Bugsy.
they both have the same vibe of being nerdy bug lovers.

Norma: representing gym leader Whitney.
honestly was such an obvious choice.
im like 90% sure she is based of miltank!

Kidd: representing gym leader Morty.
i just feel like he looks like him,
the purple, the hair, the vibe. i mean come on!

Marcie: Pokemon Center!
She really reminds me of a Chansey
and the pink and outfit are perfect!

thats the ones i am 100 % sure on. but i also consider the following:
shino: for the kimono girls
spike: for the casino
tbone: for the super market
leopold: for the school
ill update the villager list when i know who to chose exactly~

so thats the overview for now! i will edit this page later with more info.
later today ill post the first pictures of the island so stay tuned.

It’s funny you mention Kidd; I put him as one of the protagonists in my own Pokémon crossover fanfic (he’s from Kalos and has a shiny Mudkip)

this is new bark town! i just had to make it the entrance of course. and its pretty close to the resident services too so its gonna be the first thing you see when you visit its dream address in the future. i hope you can see now what i meant in the starting post that i still want to decorate like i usually do. the towns are just too empty to just copy them but i still want to keep the main parts. since there were a lot of flowers on the left to the first building i thought it would be a cute place for a small garden. it took me an embarrassing long time to figure out how to best do the fake buildings without using too much space. you cant actually see it in the pictures but i put wide display cases in the middle so they wont be empty.

i also want to sprinkle in a few pokemon here and there so it feels like a real lived in pokemon town. but its also a little hard to find good ones because i want to mainly use umbrellas and clothes, my normal codes are already sooo full haha.

new bark town part 2.
i might change the exterior of the house later but i havent paid of the loan fully yet. im also not sure yet which month exaclty i want the island to be in. usually i know what the color of the grass and trees should be but this time i am not sure.

which starter would you choose?
i really wanted to recreate the pokemon lab! i kinda liked the old version more so my version is more based on that. especially because i wanted to showcase the starter pokemon! at the end of the room you can see an opening. res services is behind it so this is the first thing you see when you will dream of this island. i thought it would be a great start, just like a normal pokemon journey!​

here is the first route or at least part of it!
i will only do some small parts of some routes because the ac island cant fit all of johto haha but i thought the first route is very important. next i want to do part of the route to Violet City. the routes are honestly only there to connect the cities with each other because there is no way i can recreate them faithfully but i still try my best. and i thought what would be better for tall grass than the wheat fields! also i wish they were more green but it still works.

i actually wanted to post this sooner but i was sick and then really busy so i hope i can make it for the event, but even if not, i still want to continue this journal anyway! oh btw ive added the picture of my villager to the main post!​

This is awesome! I love seeing the creative ways you replicate the region! I wanted to recreate Kalos a while back with all french villagers but I was (and still am) too attached to my island lol.

This tree looks like it can be cut down! Would you like to cut it?
This is just a small area of Route 31 but I really wanted to incorporate a cuttable tree somewhere and this place was perfect for it.
I love how the smaller hardwood tree actually looks like one because of the two treetops. Behind it you can see a small lake if you look closely. It's not actually there in the game (it's more to the left) but i had to cut the route short and there was an awkward empty space there so i just thought why not, it looks cute anyway.
Since you can't use cut when you first arrive there, I didn't make an empty space to go past the cuttable tree, so you actually have to go around it through the tall grass. By the way can we talk about how much of a pain it is to place wheat fields in a big area? I'm always losing my mind when I have to use them haha

Route 31 + entrance to the Dark Cave
the first (and maybe only?) cave entrance! those cave items are really amazing for making fake hills and the entrance looks exactly like the game one! on the second picture you see the small lake i mentioned in the last entry. this code is sooo cute i had to use it somewhere! i may use it again in the future but i am not sure where exactly so i am glad i could use it now. i will post the code in a spoiler below if anyone wants to use it. it has many different tiles!
this was kinda an awkward space to decorate since there wasnt really anything there in the game version but i like what i came up with. the route will end there tho so next to it is Violet City! honestly i am already struggeling with space, not that i run out of it but its a little hard to manage because i know Goldenrod City is gonna be huge! I also want there to only be one way around the island so i have to block everything else off, thats why you always see fences or bushes between the trees!
for now i am planning to include Violet City, Azalea Town with Ilex Forest (probably both very small tho), Goldenrod City and Ecruteak City. I hope i wont run out of space for all of this but i guess only time will tell. i just try my best with what i am giving by the game.

This is awesome! Great job so far making it look really close to the original. I personally love the little tree to represent the Cut trees in game. I can't wait to see where the rest of this goes!

Violet City - Part 1
i actually struggeld with the space here. it got too far to the left of the island so i had to move everything a few spaces and ill probably cut the city a little short. but the most important parts will be there of course. i needed some time to figure out how to do the pokemon center because there wasnt much space for it to make a good fake building but it looks fine. i didnt want to use marcies house yet because i planed to put her somewhere else. next up is of course the sprout tower, gym and school, but i am not sure if i will show the gym and school yet because i actually need to play HHP on this island so i can change the houses and i really dont have time for that now haha it will probably look weird with the default houses but maybe i show it on here anyway. ​

Violet City Part 2 - Sprout Tower
omg making a tall tower in this game is impossible haha but i tried my best and i like it. it is a little too wide for my taste but it wouldnt have worked any other way. i might change the decoration around it a bit but i honestly ran out of items to use so this had to do for now. i dont even have any trees left because i have to put them everywhere. the Bell Tower in Ecruteak City will probably look very similar but i will try to change it up as much as possible. btw the lake infront of it has two bridges but you will see more of that probably tomorrow!
