8 out of my 10 villagers won't wear any of the clothes I gift them with

And they're clothes they should like according to the gift guides. Does anyone else have this problem? I never had this issue before the 2.0 update

I think something might have changed, I had to move Lucky a few times (wanted to reset the house and later needed to move in campers etc) and he also stop wearing my favorite top for him all sudden ...not sure if it was after 2.0, but I know he use to wear it and now not anymore for some reason (he now puts it in the middle of the house which sucks)

I've had this issue too, I've gifted most of my villagers clothes and they wear it at first and then never wear it again. I've been so disappointed. I think only one of my villagers ever wears my gifts.

If they’re putting them in their houses you can prevent this by customizing their house with the DLC. I gave Sasha two shirts and he put them in his house, but after I put them away by customizing he wears them.

Wait, is this a new issue with the DLC? I know you can prevent them from displaying them with the DLC, but it used to be that they'd display AND sometimes wear them.
I'll pop on my main island to see if anyone is wearing gifted things...

A couple days ago I “customized” all my villagers houses (just put away all the displayed clothes) and now they’re wearing all those outfits. They weren’t before I did this.

Hmm, I just checked my main island, and I've got several villagers wearing gifted clothing (Patty's even got a hat on, she's such a fashionista). So it doesn't sound like a glitch that affects everyone, and it may be a coincidence.

If you do have the DLC, it wouldn't hurt to customize their homes and put clothing away! They used to display and wear clothes at the same time (sometimes you'd literally be in their house and they'd be wearing the same item that was displayed), but that definitely could've changed.

Sadly I don't own the DLC so I am bit at mercy if that villager will wear the clothing or just put it on display (after last update for example Ione wears something I gave her, so guees is somehow random)

For me, gifting the clothing I want them to wear several times helps. I haven't seen some of my villagers wearing their default outfits in forever, even though the things I chose for them don't even align with their preferences. I think they own what I want them to wear about five times, and it works.

ive checked this out and from what i understand each villager has a storage unit of 24 *or 29 i forget which one* items sooo i guess you have to give them 24 pieces of clothing in order to get them to wear anything that you give them.
however, i just gave apollo a shirt that he didnt like today and he put it on and hasnt taken it off and i never give clothing to the villagers because they wreck their homes with them LOL!

I haven't had this problem. My villagers continue to wear things that I've given them in the past from what I can tell, and I've given them holiday stuff that they wear too. Just the other day Merry was wearing the Cosmos Crown I had gifted her forever ago.
