I've been time traveling, and have a few suggestions about getting these awfully hard to obtain diys.

So, for the snowboy diys, you have to make a snowboy everyday starting Dec. 11th. It takes time to perfect it, but it's not hard once you get the proportion of the head and body correct. The snow boy gives out one different diy to each family member on the island. So, if you have multiple characters on the island, you are in luck with the ice diys. Also, keep talking to the melting snow boys as days go by. They will give you useful stuff.

As for the festive diys. I'm not sure if it's luck or actual changes to the game code, I've been able to get one festive diy from balloons within the first 15-30 mins of game play everyday (less luck with diys after getting the first one though). It felt easier to obtain than the mush diys. So let's hope it is better rng for us.

As for the snowflakes and ornaments, they are plentiful, unlike the pinecones.

I haven't gotten the snowflake diys yet, so if people have already gotten them, I'd like to see if the rate of balloon drop for these has improved.

There are no festive trees and no snowballs, though my island is covered in vile snow.

Do you have enough space for snowballs to spawn? They need a fair amount of space. Give me a sec, I'll find the pic of my "snowboy factory"

Also, festive trees don't happen until... the 15th, I believe? I'm also TTing.

And I'd pretty sure I've found some snowflake DIYs- I'm guessing they'll be easiest to find before/after the festive DIYs are released, if you want them specifically. Personally, I like balloon hunting when both are active, just to try and grab 'em all at once.

Alright, here we go...

So, this shows the amount of space I'm using to spawn snowballs. Since all the other areas of my island are pretty heavily covered/decorated, my snowballs ALWAYS spawn here. Meaning I don't need to move them very far. The stone pathing on the side is for when I accidentally make a snowball too big- I roll it over that to make it smaller again. Remember, the trick is to make a really big bottom (technically you can make a smaller one, as long as proportions are correct, but I find it easier to measure this way)- you'll know it's good when your character is pushing it a bit slower. As for the head, make it (I believe) ONE size smaller than the body. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems right to me. If it's too big or small, the snowboy will tell you, and you may eventually want to punch them when you keep hearing "Ooh! So close!" but, eventually, you should get the hang of it.

And...
Snowboys will give 1 DIY to each character on an island- but ONLY on their "birthday" as in, the day you create them. Look at my Snowboy pic, and you'll see the one on the far left is the newly made one. He would give my side characters DIYs, the others wouldn't. BUT they will give "Big Snowflakes" to whoever makes them. These are absolutely needed to craft ANY of the Snowboy (ice) DIYs.You can make ONE Snowboy per day, regardless of number of characters, IIRC.

And I can confirm ornaments are WAY easier to get than pinecones/acorns- decorated trees ONLY drop ornaments, NEVER twigs. But the colors are random, and any tree can drop any color whenever it feels like it. And snowflakes are freakin' EVERYWHERE. Like, I often see two or three on screen at a time. You will not lack for snowflakes, I promise. Big snowflakes are, of course, rarer.

I got all of seasonal diys from trading. After I made a post saying how the idea of Seasonal DIYS being in Balloon gifts only was a bad a idea I pretty much just get them from other people who managed to get the diy and trade them. Yeah sure I spent a lot of nmts getting them but its worth it. I would rather do that then spend ours of Balloon farming. If only Nintendo didn't make these diys so hard to get this would not be a problem

I made my first snow boy and later I spoke to it with my secondary character, but didn't get any DIYs. Does it not work with the first one?

Edit: Oh wait, my secondary character has to make their own snow boy don't they 😅 I was talking to the one my main made.

Gah, I don’t TT and I desperately need a whole crap ton of frozen partitions for my Frozen themed island lol. This is gonna take absolutely forever.

Oohh thanks!
That is so much useful information :) Now I can move forward to perfect my winter island!

Thank you so much for sharing! All this information is so helpful! I can’t speak for everyone, as I’m not sure if the RNG has gotten kinder or if I’ve just gotten lucky, but I managed to get all the snowflake DIYs in just four days (with spending 3 or less hours a day balloon farming).

I’ve gotten a snowflake wall from a balloon today, so they are in there.

I managed to get the ice berg wall aswell, by just running around and collecting snowflakes 😂❄️

I thought there could only be one snowboy made each day on the island. I also tried talking to the snowboy with my secondary character and didn't get anything.

Only one character can make a Snowboy each day, as only two snowballs spawn on the island per day.

The Snowboy needs to be perfectly made for both characters to get the DIY from them. I found this out the hard way this morning, too.

You only need to make one snow boy. The snow boy has to be perfect. The second or third character can get a different frozen diy from the snow boy. I've done it twice by now.

Also, talk to the melting snowboys daily. They will give you something (not diy).

My wife and I play on the same island because, as you all know, Nintendo doesn't allow more than one island per console.

She made a snowboy today. I played after her and have yet to find any snowballs, and the snowboy did not give me a DIY.

I cleared out a bunch of decorations and flowers from the top of my island, so now it looks like the Yukon. We'll see if I get anything or if I'm SOL for today.

There is only one snowboy on an island per day. So if she made a snowboy, then you can't make one. Also, if the snowboy is not perfect, then you can't get a diy.

Well, she got her DIY from it, so I'm just being penalized for not owning a second console.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I think this is why my parents contracted me to build snowboys on their island. I’m making sure they get an even amount of large snowflakes, and I had practice on my main island because I started in the dead of winter there. Even still, it’s a bit crummy for these first few days cuz secondary characters have no way to get diys if the first person on messes it up.

hmm, maybe for any snowboy you make, the secondary character doesn't necessarily get the diy? Or for the first snow boy, even if it's not perfect, the character that made the snowboy can still get the diy, bu the second character doesn't?

My first Snowboy wasn't perfect, but he still gave my main character (who built him) a recipe. When I approached him with my alternate character, I didn't receive a recipe.

Otherwise, assuming the Snowboy is perfectly built, all residents on the island should be able to acquire a recipe from him, regardless of who built him.
