A fyi about winter diys: festive and snowboy, and getting snowflakes and ornaments

As for the festive diys. I'm not sure if it's luck or actual changes to the game code, I've been able to get one festive diy from balloons within the first 15-30 mins of game play everyday (less luck with diys after getting the first one though). It felt easier to obtain than the mush diys. So let's hope it is better rng for us.

I hope this is true! I don't really need all of the festive DIYs any time soon so I'd much rather steadily get one DIY per day than spend time on balloon hunting.

I always make the head to small because I think the perfect snow's head is way too big and I lack the discipline to do what the game wants on this one!

I think even the non-perfect snowboys got diys today, but only for the main character. That’s what happened to me.

Thank you so much for sharing! All this information is so helpful! I can’t speak for everyone, as I’m not sure if the RNG has gotten kinder or if I’ve just gotten lucky, but I managed to get all the snowflake DIYs in just four days (with spending 3 or less hours a day balloon farming).

Man, that still takes too long. We really should be guaranteed one diy per day - from bottles/villagers, so we don't have to balloon farm.

There is a way to get the snowboy diy recipe cards! I found this out by accident on my south hemisphere island a few months ago! To get a snowboy recipe card, create a new player in the island but do not do the diy tutorial with Tom Nook, and instead talk to the snow boy first. The snowboy will note that you don't have a way to store diys on your phone and will give your character the recipe card instead. You can drop the card whenever you want and can delete the character when you're done. Note that you can only get one recipe card per new character, ever. So once the snowboy gives a character a card, he won't ever give them another one, even if its a new recipe. So you'll have to delete the character and create a new one to receive another recipe card.

i only have one character on my island but just out of curiousity, if anyone knows - can two players from the same island make a snowboy together?

You only need to make one snow boy. The snow boy has to be perfect. The second or third character can get a different frozen diy from the snow boy. I've done it twice by now.

Also, talk to the melting snowboys daily. They will give you something (not diy).

Ohh ok, I was thinking the first snow boy gave DIYs to everyone regardless. Man this was harder than I thought, I used the measurement trick and thought my snow boy looked pretty good but I guess not

Only got one snowball on my island today, combed through all areas multiple times, and there's plenty of space since I'm still far from done redoing my island.

hmm, maybe for any snowboy you make, the secondary character doesn't necessarily get the diy? Or for the first snow boy, even if it's not perfect, the character that made the snowboy can still get the diy, bu the second character doesn't?

FWIW, after I built my first Snowboy, I was able to get a DIY from a perfect Snowboy built by her, but only on the birthday. The Snowboy does not give me any other items after his birth.

I also tried to take a hatchet to the snowboys but was unsuccessful.
