If you're reading this, chances are you're the owner of DS, and for making that choice, I thank you.
Why, you ask? Well, on average, a DS game costs about $30-$35. Some people deem this as a waste of money, or too much for just a game... and they may be right. But I thank you for buying a $35 videogame instead of something else...
You may or may not be aware of the price of cigarettes, but a carton generally is priced very similarly to that of a DS game, $30-$35. Every time you buy a new DS game, you're making the right choice, because you could be buying "something else".
Cigarettes and DS games have a lot in common: you can use them pretty much anywhere, there price is very similar, and people can become "addicted" to both.

Anyways, it's pretty sad when a parent tells their child that they're "addicted" to playing a videogame. If only they appreciated their child was enjoying a videogame instead of ruining their life smoking with friends.
And it'd be great if they'd realize that instead of ruining their life, their child was not only having fun, but maybe learning a thing or two (hey, miracles happen). And who knows - maybe by playing a game their child will develop a new interest thanks to that game (ranging from how games are made to how games are sold to whatever the topic of the game is). But, if that child spent their $30 instead on some cigarettes, the only thing they'd be doing is knocking years of a time off of their life. By playing a videogame, kids aren't throwing years away, but enjoying the best years of their life.
So, the next time you hear someone say how much of a waste of money a game is, be sure to remind them that you may be wasting your money, but at least your life isn't wasting away because of your "addiction".
Hope ya enjoyed my two cents on this random subject.
Note: I never have smoked (it'd be illegal if I did), nor will I ever; it's grotesque in my opinion.
