When the new Animal Crossing is released, we may get the chance to see villagers with new personalities make their way into our towns.

What personalities would you like to see incorporated into the next game?

I think the devs should focus on making the current personalities a little different from one another based on some particular differences. For example: a lazy cat would have some unique dialogue differences/interests compared to a lazy dog, etc. This would make having two or more villagers with the same personality type in your town seem more unique. Then we won't hear them say the same thing as one another so often.

I'd love to see a shy/antisocial personality. Maybe it's a little bit more rare to see them outdoors than others. They seem uncomfortable talking and are apologetic when making requests but are the most noticeable when they buddy up to you later. I could see that being a male personality although I've said before that I would love for all personalities to become unisex.

It might sound strange but I would actually kinda like to see the smug and uchi personalities made more... cliche? Because they are weirdly generic as they are, and I know they're supposed to be that way as they're kind of a mix of all the other personalities but I feel like if they were more stand-out one trait it would actually fit with the others. Maybe they could be romantic and bossy instead. More so for the uchi personality actually because I really can't see anything stand-out about them (I don't think I'm alone in not liking that personality though)

Oooh. An anti-social personality would be cool.
Like one who you have to make really warm up to you like sable, but takes actual time rather than like 10 visits only.

Agreed 100%. I'd love more personality-exclusive dialogue (a la Wild World), but I'd also like some species exclusive dialogue options as well to keep villagers of the same personality unique from each other. Maybe instead of new personalities, they could go the "sub-personalities" route. Then you can get more expansive personalities and more dialogue.

Basically I just want more dialogue :) New Leaf's dialogue gets stale quickly and it might be my biggest knock on the game.

Yep! Aside from new villagers moving in wherever the heck they want, villager dialogue is the only other real issue I have with NL. Sub-personalities is exactly it and you're spot on with animal specific dialogue/interests as well. This would open up so many unique dialogue options.

Also, the devs should make it where the introductory dialogue (villagers offering to help understand features in the game) goes away after a few hours of gameplay. How annoying is it after 100 + hours of gameplay when you try to talk to a villager and they're trying to tell you how to use the d-pad to look at the sky. Come on, Phoebe! lol

As long as they improve on the dialogue for the current personalities, I'll be happy.

I think these would be neat to have in the game:
? nerdy/studious: not quite Blathers status, but enjoys talking about things s/he's read up on
? geeky: likes games, comics, film, etc.; will geek out about such things
? traditional: perhaps would make more sense for Japan... but culturally old-timey
? timid: dialogue appears more hesitant and makes more embarrassed emotes
? entrepreneur: imagines self as an inventor (much like a peppy imagines herself as a pop star), bounces terrible ideas off you

Unisex personalities would be great! It could be as if the personality-types were doubled too, assuming they would make some feminine and masculine distinctions within dialogue.

You're not alone. I like uchi types though. haha. They're more tomboyish to me than the other female villagers. But I do agree about the smugs. They're so romantic and flamboyant. It's great, but not what I envision when I hear the word 'smug'. Along the same vein: I think cranky villagers are very laidback and big brother-like. If they brought back the old cranky style or something similar to it, I feel like the ACNL style could be its own personality type.

A shy, nerdy personality for male villagers would be nice.

Then a creepy, gothic female villager would be pretty cool to see too.

I'd really like to see some unisex personalities, like some have mentioned in the thread already. Shy, Social, Anti-social would fit really well.

Shy is pretty straight forward. They don't talk much, but will open up towards the player over time.
Social would be villagers who talk a lot (think a less annoying Peppy). They would often ping you, solely to start a conversation.
Anti-social would often try to end a conversation short, and don't really ping you very much but when they do.. it's probably really important to them.

Other than the above, I'd kinda like to see a 'Flirty' personality for females. They'd act similar to how Smug villagers tend to come off a little flirty at times, but it's a bit more direct. Nothing out-right LEWD or anything. Think along the line of lots of compliments and peppiness towards the player.

I can totally see a few current villagers switching over to this personality. The first that comes to my mind is Doc, who doesn't really fit the lazy personality, all things considered.

I think Beardo should also switch to this personality as he seems quite creepy as a smug villager.

You know, it’s true, I think I’ll put together a small list of villagers who don’t fit their personalities, (I kove Beardo, but with the smug personality, I called him beardo the weirdo on more then one occasion...lazy or jock would be more fitting) I mean huck’s personality was changed from lazy to smug....I mean, what? Why.... and I think doc has been lazy since AC:GC era..would he be more jock?

I agree, I think Puck should be a jock hence his name and his appearance. Doc would make a great nerdy character, smugs can be nerdy sometimes but idk if he'd be the type to flirt with everyone.
I think Agent S should become Uchi as she seems more of a tomboy rather than a wannabe popstar

New or not, I would love it if the personalities interacted with the world a little bit more.

For example, I saw some people suggest a Nerdy personality type (cool idea!). What if, in addition to being a bookworm, Nerds were also really into the weather. Maybe they watch weather reports on TV or have a weather app on their phone, and when they get the chance, they'll talk to you about the forecast for tomorrow or the coming week.

I think a Rocker personality might be fun. What if they were really into K.K. albums? They could talk to you about their newest favorite K.K. single, bring up when K.K. will be in town next, and maybe even trade you music from time to time. Maybe they'd also be into certain types of fashion.

I think the issues with unisex personalities comes down to the Japanese language, and since the english version of the game is just a translated version of the japanese game.... I don't see us getting unisex personalities.

Basically the way japanese is inflected is very different for men and women, of course, individuals may use feminine or masculine speech if that's how they want to present themselves, but the personality system in animal crossing isn't really equipped for that kind of nuance. In english, written text isn't really masculine or feminine, it's all demonstrated mostly through mannerisms and style of talking, but in japanese grammar points are written differently - or even not used - for men and women. It's not impossible to have however male and female crankies for example, they could even use the same text pool in english, but in japanese they would have to speak decidedly differently. It all comes down to the devs at the end of the day, but unisex personalities are very, very unlikely. Not impossible but, extremely unlikely.

This is what I hope they end up doing. It?s nice to see in New Leaf how the villagers are at least aware of what species they are in some dialogues, so I?m hoping they continue to expand on that idea. Even small touches like frogs not walking around with umbrellas in the rain is a nice touch.
