A QoL New Leaf update they removed in New Horizons.

That sounds more annoying than having to put the tools away. If you’re fishing or bug catching at night and there happens to be a star, then all of a sudden your character is making a wish? Idk man especially with the bug catching. I’d be real annoyed if something good got away because of that.

Or what about trying to shoot down balloons during a meteor shower? I think the developers made the right call.
No, it wouldn't affect bug catching or fishing. It would only make a wish if you pan your camera upwards, which you wouldn't do while catching bug/fish. If you were running around as normal, your tools will work normally.

Honestly, I had no idea the Welcome Amiibo update changed that. Could you link any footage or screenshots showing off what it looks like? I tried Googling, and I got no relevant results. Interestingly enough, only this thread came up in terms of relevance.

I don’t mind the way it is in New Horizons at all. I think having both hands free to do the animation makes it look way more natural and, well, nicer. An animation wishing with one hand free and a tool in the other hand just seems awkward and weird, which is why I can’t even recall it being a thing in New Leaf at any point.
Unfortunately, not a lot of people made content after the Welcome amiibo update. This was a feature that honestly wasn't used much at all because as I said, wishing on stars was not at all a big feature in the game. All the content you will find about it in New Leaf is before the update. Most content made after that, was showcasing Harvey and the campsite. And people mostly were happy with houses no longer spawning on paths. No one cared about this little qol change, and most didn't even notice. The game was so old by that time and no one was wishing on stars anymore :( If you have New Leaf and time travel, maybe you can test it out!

That would make sense, ok. But it still wouldn’t work because yo wouldn’t be able to shoot down balloons during a meteor shower.

Perhaps they removed it because meteor showers are a bigger thing in NH and they wanted the player to put a little effort into it.

Yes you would be able to.. wishing on stars require you to pan up the camera.. you can use all the tools normally. It would only wish when your camera is up, which you wouldn't normally do in regular game play.. it would work exactly the same as it does right now, except you don't have to fumble to put your tools away..

I never played new leaf anyway maybe that’s why I see it so differently.

I think they should add it back so you can wish on starts with tools in your hands. I also think they should let you wish on stars while you are sitting down on a piece of furniture outside too.

Wishing works the same way in New Horizons though. You pan the camera up then press A. It just eliminates the step of having to put your tool away first, then pan up, then press A. You would just pan up, no matter what tool you're holding, then press A. When you catch bugs/fish or use any other tool, you do not pan the camera up. So the annoyance you are talking about wouldn't exist. Hope I made it clearer for you!

I 100% agree with this! I really wanna make a sitting area for visitors to wish in! It would be adorable!

Don't you have to be looking upwards for it to trigger the wish? Not sure about that, but I always do it because of habit.

Yeah everything is so slow in tedious on ACNH. I have a bad feeling that it's intentional and they just want it to show on everyone's activity log.
That would make sense, especially with the way updates are staggered over time so we don’t even have a full game at the start. It’s very frustrating and not a good way to reward a fan base that has loyal for so many years

Maybe they could just have you press a different button to make a wish. That would just fix the problem entirely of using a slingshot etc.

I totally forgot wishing stars was a thing in NL lol...I didn't do it much. You just got random presents in the mail later right? That is kind of sad that they did that update in NL and kept it out in NH. Because I have to use my pole and ladder to traverse a lot still and then boom I can't get the tool off soon enough and the star goes away.

One thing they did keep in though was being able to shake trees with a net still in your system. That was a WA update that I loved so much. It made catching the bees so easy.
You got Wishy in WW too, and it wasn't random items, Wishy sent spotlight items.

I got thrones so many times in WW. :)

Wishy was fun back then.

Hmm, maybe I’ll try to look for proof of it in my game, because I haven’t heard of that change at all, and I feel like I would’ve seen at least one mention of it on the internet since the update was years ago now..

Either way, as someone as said, I think autonomously wishing upon a star when I‘m moving the camera to either shoot down a balloon, catch a fish/bug, etc. would only bother me more, so I’m happy with the way it is now! I love the way the system works in New Horizons better too, having to wish upon stars for small, large, and the astrology sign fragments corresponding to the time of year. To me, that’s way more fun than being sent one, single item in the mail a day later, between crafting awesome astrology/space furniture and trading online.

I think people are definitely misunderstanding because this wouldn't affect how you use your tools normally. To wish on a star, you have to pan up your camera. To use your tools, you do not do this. You do not need to pan up your camera to use your slingshot. :)
