ACNH: Stay or Go

Living on an Island - GO
I think it's a fun feature but also works to the games disservice as when you're playing in any season aside from Spring or Summer ( when the grass is green ) it just feels incredibly unnatural. I'm not sure, it just felt very isolating to me and not in a good way. I only play the game during Spring / Summer because there's just something offputting about being surrounded by the beach & island themes during colder months

Outdoor Furniture
- STAY & GO
I think it's a good feature but there needs to be limitations on it. I think we should be able to place furniture outdoors but with a similar mechanic to publics work projects. You actually have to work to be able to put things outside

Terraforming - STAY & GO
I personally was not a fan of this mechanic, I like not being able to have control over the layout of my island. If this feature were to return however there should be an option to "reset" your island to its original layout

Crafting
- GO Crafting, the worst feature in any game. Literally just seemed like they were trying to fit into the "cozy gaming" trend. No use for it

Farming - GO Literally just seemed like they were trying to fit into the "cozy gaming" trend. No use for it

Cooking - GO Literally just seemed like they were trying to fit into the "cozy gaming" trend. No use for it

Breakable Tools

I think it's kind of fun and I would be okay with it staying only under the circumstance that Golden tools don't break

Relocating Houses and Buildings - STAY & GO
I think you should be able to re-located buildings but not villager houses

Villager Hunting - STAY

Villagers Moving In Personality-order

If the next game is going to be the same with how awful New Horizons was with villager repeating dialogue then having a large assortment of personalities is a necessity

- GO
Go go go! If you want to have 100% control over your villagers I feel like Animal Crossing isn't the game for you. It just sucks the life out of them. Apart of the charm of feeling like they're alive is sometimes your favorite villager might move out ( yes it's sad but you can always get them back again later! ). At present villagers just feel like collectables

Haha I just took a peek in the thread and realised this is my second time posting here, still fun to see if any of my opinions have changed or not though!

Living on an Island - GO! While it was nice for 1 game, I'd prefer if we went back to the previous town layouts (cliffs to the north, and beaches on the bottom). Also I personally don't like the aesthetic they went for the island theme in NH, it's called Animal Forest in Japanese and would prefer a more forest oriented town like the previous games. Or perhaps even an option to change the map terrains like in Happy Home Paradise or Pocket Camp.

Changing Our Appearance Anytime - STAY. I like that we can change our hair color and style and facial features with the mirror. I do like Shampoodle and Harriet so I would be okay with her having exclusive hairstyles or unlocking certain hairstyles.

Tool Ring - STAY. Love it although I still switch back and forth with the old fashioned way.

Autosaving - GO. I want Resetti back! Kids these days need to learn CON SE QUENCES. I fondly look back at learning the importance of saving by being yelled at by Resetti and accepting the lecture if I HAD to quit without saving. I think if they implemented it more like New Leaf, that'd be ideal (having an option where you say your battery ran out or whatever so you can skip the long lecture). Also, unless they come up with a better system for terraforming (like a save layout feature they have in Pocket Camp), I think auto-save is detrimental to my style of play.

Buying in Bulk - STAY. I agree with you, I'd prefer if they let us choose the quantity or at the very least up it to 10 per bulk buy.

Outdoor Furniture - STAY. I like it but they need to implement a better system more like the indoor decorator, HHP or Pocket Camp.

Terraforming - STAY. I think this can stay but I would like it to make more intuitive and easier and for the shapes to look more natural like they do in their other games.

Placing Paths - STAY. I like the pathing but I think it could be improved, like being able to place paths under buildings and more options for the width and possible shapes.

Placing Fences - STAY. BUT I'd prefer the fences to be individual items with corner pieces instead of the system they have now. I don't like how the shape changes depending on how many are put down and I hate that it's not uniform!!

Crafting - GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate crafting so much. I hate how slow it is to craft even if you press A to speed it up. I hate that your character turns around to show off the item and then it gives you a menu option to continue or not and that there's no customize in that menu so if you say no, you have to turn towards the workbench again and then start a new dialog to get the customization menu. It's so time consuming. I know you can put the workbench on the south but it's annoying. And gathering materials where it's a game of luck if you'll be able to get the material you need and often the amounts are unbalanced. I just hate everything about it and wish we could go back to the shopping method they've always had.

Farming - STAY. The crops are cute. I just wish they'd bring back the NL fruits.

Cooking - GO. I like cooking better than crafting but yeah it can go too.

Vaulting Poles and Ladders - STAY. Unless they get rid of terraforming, I don't think they'll get rid of these.

8-Player Online Play - STAY. I think 8 is fine, it's just really annoying how they handle when someone disconnects so I hope they change that in the future.

Singing Villagers - STAY. I love the little things they added to the villagers like singing, reading, sitting, exercising, getting zoomies, etc!

Breakable Tools - GO. I think for regular tools, it's fine but for the GOLDEN tools?!!!?! Absolutely not.

Relocating Houses and Buildings - STAY. There was a work-around for placing houses in New Leaf (placing down patterns) but the current method is soooo much easier.

Villager Hunting - STAY. Even though I have Amiibos of my villagers, I think there should be a non paid way to get villagers by yourself that doesn't involve resetting or getting them from other users. Would be nice if they changed the RNG to only having a villager show up once until you've had all the villagers show up.

Villagers Moving In Personality-order - GO. I understand why they did it in this game but I hope they never do it again.

Giving Villagers Gift In-person - STAY. A great addition to the franchise, 10/10!

Cheering Villagers Up - STAY. Another great addition!

Seeing What You Donated from Your Crittipedia - STAY. Very useful!

Shoveling Trees and Breaking Rocks - STAY. Another useful feature!

Villagers Always Talk to You Before Moving - STAY. I could go either way but I think a compromise where they can move out with the same mechanics as New Leaf but set the timer to 2-4 weeks instead of 1 week.

BONUS: Features that debuted in New Leaf that reappeared in New Horizons

Placing Your House Wherever
- STAY. I love this feature! It opens up for people to try out different builds and concepts (beach house, mountain cabin, castle with a moat, neighborhood home with the rest of your villagers, etc.

Exterior Customization - STAY. I agree with you, they should bring back the exteriors and house types as New Leaf.

Refurbishing - STAY.

Villagers Visiting Buildings and Other Villager's Houses - STAY. But we do need the megaphone back, some kind of map marker or a way to make all the villagers go back to their homes.

Amiibo-ing In Villagers - STAY. It's unlikely they'll ever get rid of this since they want to sell Amiibos.

Villagers Randomly Visiting Your House - STAY. I'd love for the visits to be more rare though. I get nervous decorating too long in my house because I know it's just a matter of time before one of my lovely villagers will barge in.

Villagers Randomly Sending Letters - STAY. I save my letters from my villagers. Some of them are really touching like the ones that are like, "I see you working hard!"

Unscheduled Visits - STAY. Yeah I often would forget to go home for the scheduled visits on time so I like the new method.

I edited my some of my OP, as some of my opinions of changed since then. ^^

My first game was Wild World. I played that up until New Leaf and barely touched City Folk. And have been ongoing with New Horizons. So, here's my response

Living on an Island - GO. I liked the island of New Horizons. But nothing about the series necessarily needs that. I feel the forest/countryside vibe fits the game better.

Changing Our Appearance Anytime - STAY. Absolutely has to stay. The old way of choosing your face was just a weird feature from the old games that hung around way too long. I wouldn't mind still having the unlocks for non-natural hair colors (green, blue, purple, etc) from Shampoodle.

Tool Ring - STAY. Fully agree on everything said in the OP.

Autosaving - STAY. Honestly I never thought of this, so I guess stay, I don't care.

Buying in Bulk - STAY. This needs to be a buy-X feature.

Outdoor Furniture - STAY. 100% needs to stay.

Terraforming - STAY. I would love this to stay. I wonder how it'll work when it comes to the next game if they go back to the forest.

Placing Paths - STAY. 100% better than patterns. It's immersive to walk on them, and hear the proper sound of walking on stone or wood as opposed to patterns, which sounded like grass.

Placing Fences - STAY. I want taller hedges.

Crafting - STAY. Everything said in the OP I agree with. I feel like there should be some weighting for DIYs you don't have. I get it's meant to encourage trading. But that's frustrating.

Farming - STAY. I don't think farming should be in a separate area from the town; I feel like it being a late-game addition just had people retroactively add in farms which made it look weird. That said, I wouldn't be heartbroken if it didn't return.

Cooking - STAY. I agree with everything the OP said. I also would not be too annoyed if certain furniture was needed to craft certain foods. Stove for cooking, blender for drinks, etc.

Vaulting Poles and Ladders - STAY.

8-Player Online Play - STAY. I love the options, and this is such a convenience for catalog islands.

Singing Villagers - STAY. I have literally never thought about this.

Breakable Tools - STAY. I'm fine with tools breaking. Golden tools should not break.

Relocating Houses and Buildings - STAY. Stay.

Villager Hunting - STAY. As someone who does not care particularly about what villagers move in or not, this does not bother me.

Villagers Moving In Personality-order - GO. It's very structured now, as lined out by OP, and I would prefer it to be randomized.

Giving Villagers Gift In-person - STAY. Sure.

Cheering Villagers Up - STAY. I have literally never thought of this.

Seeing What You Donated from Your Crittipedia - STAY. I love QOL features.

Shoveling Trees and Breaking Rocks- STAY. I love this, and it would definitely be nicer to just move the rocks as opposed to having to put mannequins everywhere.

Villagers Always Talk to You Before Moving- GO. I don't play every day, and sometimes I just don't talk to all my villagers. I do miss when I would log back and in and a good chunk of villagers have changed.

BONUS: Features that debuted in New Leaf that reappeared in New Horizons
(even though this thread is mostly for ACNH-debutant features, I want to give my opinion on
ACNL-debutant ones, that made another appearance in New Horizons)

Placing Your House Wherever - STAY. Duh.

Exterior Customization - STAY. Yeah, bring this back.

Refurbishing - STAY. Duh.

Villagers Visiting Buildings and Other Villager's Houses - STAY. It's more immersive and I like it.

Amiibo-ing In Villagers - STAY. Duh.

Villagers Randomly Visiting Your House - STAY. Let me turn off my lights or lock the doors.

Villagers Randomly Sending Letters - STAY. Duh.

Unscheduled Visits - STAY. Sure.

I've only played New leaf and New horizons (though I've watched playthroughs of older games.. does that count? lol) but I wanted to chime in with my opinions!

GO:
Living on an Island
: I feel like the towns of the series are vastly overdone and I definitely don't want another island, so I just want a new setting overall! Maybe an actual forest? I know there's not a whole lot to do without a town setting but maybe a countryside sort of deal could work too.. like rural Japan or something??

Breakable Tools: I hate this. Enough said LOL (but if it stays, golden tools should NOT break)

Villagers Moving In Personality-order: This is very boring and repetitive in the game. I'd be happier if it was random.

STAY:
Changing Our Appearance Anytime: A must! Answering vague questions to choose your appearance is annoying lol

Tool Ring: Yeah this is pretty helpful, especially when having to catch a fast bug.

Autosaving: I, and many others, are very forgetful so this feature is SO helpful. I have adhd and would be devastated to lose all my progress because forgot to save once.

Buying in Bulk: YES. It is so frustrating and slow buying things one at a time.

Vaulting Poles and Ladders: Very helpful.

8-Player Online Play: Yeah this is a fun! And helpful for if you want items.

Villager Hunting: Sure yeah. I don't do it much, I have amiibos for that but it's enjoyable.

Giving Villagers Gift In-person, Cheering Villagers Up, Villagers Visiting Buildings and Other Villager's Houses, Villagers Randomly Visiting Your House, Villagers Randomly Sending Letters, Singing Villagers: Yes! All of these make the game more immersive and feel alive.

Amiibo-ing In Villagers: If I cannot amiibo Marshal into every town/island, what is the point of this game 😂

Seeing What You Donated from Your Crittipedia: Very helpful! I don't like making notes everywhere to keep track of things.

Placing Your House Wherever, Exterior Customization, Refurbishing, Relocating Houses and Buildings, Placing Fences, Outdoor Furniture, Shoveling Trees and Breaking Rocks: I love customization so yeah easy choice.

Farming & Cooking: Sure why not.

NEUTRAL:
Terraforming: Only if it gets severely reworked from how it is in acnh. It's time-consuming, very janky, and just overall not fun.

Placing Paths: Again, if it gets reworked. I don't like how you can only do one tile at a time, and picking up an item should NOT be the same button as wipe away a path.

Crafting: Only if you can craft multiple items at a time, and if it doesn't stop between each one (ie "look I made a shovel, look I made a net") AND if you can go between crafting and customizing easier (instead of having to go through the first bit of dialogue after crafting to then customize)

Villagers Always Talk to You Before Moving: I'm very iffy on this. One one hand, I don't want to lose my favourite villagers. One the other, waiting for someone to talk to you can take AGES and maybe I'd like a quicker roster change. Maybe if there was a way to keep your favourites?

Here's my take:

GO:
Shallow villager interaction
is the most problematic part of the game, imo. The villagers are the best part! They are the animals in animal crossing! So for them all to have vaguely the same personalities and say the same two or three dialogues every day just nukes my desire to keep playing. I'd like the same depth as the old games, PLUS more, like being able to schedule meet ups or specific activities with villagers.
Terraforming tedium also stops me from playing, or at least from terraforming.
Ultra-repetitive music should be swapped out with the beautiful hourly score of the old games.
Slow pacing - I think the fact that almost everyone time skips just to play the game means we need to lose the real-time pacing elements, or at least remedy some of the blocks. Furniture grinding could be made easier with even just one shop inventory swap during the day, or a shopping mall with multiple floors of stuff to buy. More varied things to do during the day and night throughout the game other than villager hunting and fetch quests.

STAY:
Pretty much everything else
. It's one of the best looking games I've ever seen, the furniture and crafting stuff is all great, the island events are cool, farming and cooking are amazing additions. I'd like Nintendo to do this again, but more efficiently and more deeply!
