When it comes to this site or some other site, what are some advantages that browsing mobile or even using mobile has that an actual desktop computer or a laptop doesn’t have? You may also discuss disadvantages.

Major social media apps (Facebook, Twitter) seem much more compact and easier to navigate, especially when going through personal settings.

I'm assuming they put more time into the mobile apps over the desktop versions.

For me, here are the advantages of going mobile:
  • You can visit a site on the go. That’s how I can browse and post on this forum while I’m walking, in the car, in a restaurant, and in a hotel room.
  • Special symbols (like the degree symbol °), I can hold down my keyboard keys rather than have to copy or paste through unicode).

I can literally be anywhere and scroll through social media lol. it's not like im holding a laptop while in line at the convenience store. plus getting on a desktop is such a hassle if i have to check something quick.

major pros for desktop/laptop are larger screen, printing, and typing super long things.

I like the portable aspect of using the phone, and also that I listen to music better with it. However, while I sometimes I write on it, I find it distracting and prefer to use my laptop for writing.

I don’t believe there are advantages with browsing on a phone, but I’ve gotten so used to it that I don’t care. I didn’t have a laptop until early 2024, and it made me realize there are things you can do on the browser that you are unable to on a phone. For one, certain sites have a desktop mode with more options that aren’t always accessible on a phone. It sucks for those that don’t own a desktop computer or laptop, but I suppose that’s how sites work.

Maybe if you just browse forums and use it for social media, it has advantages, but that’s not how everyone uses a phone. I recently had to pull out my laptop to add money onto my PayPal wallet since it’s impossible to do on your phone. Also, YouTube Studios has more options on their desktop mode which are inaccessible on a mobile device. I prefer having a laptop, but a phone can be convenient.

The only benefit in my opinion is that you can browse on the go. I'm definitely glad I have a way of checking websites when I'm out, but if I'm at home, I much prefer browsing on a laptop. I get headaches from looking at my phone for more than a few minutes.

Phone is good for on the go, otherwise I prefer a laptop. I like the bigger screen and I prefer using a mouse/touchpad than just tapping on a phone. Even something simple as highlighting is way easier on desktop than doing it with your finger on a phone.

on tumblr, you can't view most themes on mobile, so you don't see when someone has put a lot of work into designing their blog (and some pages are completely un-viewable in mobile), plus the app tends to have a lot of issues lol

but I don't own a laptop, just a desktop, so of course a phone is more convenient of I'm not going to be home
