So I was thinking of buying this game for my bf for Christmas since he's been trying to convince me to play it ever since it was announced. However, I really hated Hyrule Warriors because it was soo unlike an actual Zelda game. I bought it having no idea what Dynasty Warriors even was so I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I never ended up finishing the game even.

Well Age of Calamity seems like it's far more connected to Zelda as a game, and I'm definitely interested in the story since it is canon. And I'd love to give my bf the experience! But I don't want to get it if I'll have to force myself to play it since I'm getting it for him with the promise of playing it with him. If I end up giving up on it, he'll be sad and not finish the game, just like with Hyrule Warriors. So before I buy it, I want to know if it's better for Zelda fans than Hyrule Warriors was. Thank you!

i'm literally playing this now lol

honestly i've never played hyrule warriors before so i can't compare it, but i got age of calamity when it released and it's absolutely amazing ♡
everything about it is beautiful like the music, cutscenes and graphics (revali's theme in this game is the best piece of music nintendo has ever made imo)

the gameplay is really fun and there's so much to do on it, plus there's loads of characters with different fighting styles like in smash bros

i don't know if this is a spoiler or not but i don't think the game is canon, it still is an incredible game though ^-^

It actually is canon :) it's the prequel of what happened 100 years before Breath of the Wild! It's the main reason my bf and I are interested in it! The Zelda team actually worked closely with the devs which makes it a little different from Hyrule Warriors.

I've been in love with the gameplay of AOC! I never played Hyrule Warriors so I have nothing to compare it to, but the main quests and side quests of AOC have been very fulfilling to me. I also love the range of characters I can play. I even have played two player with my husband at times, he's not very video game oriented but he enjoyed it. Overall, I do recommend it for fans of the LOZ franchise. :')

Im also planning on buy this for xmas
Acyually my little sis wants this game desperatly abd shes also a big fan of mipha
And since she realized she was a playable char
She cant stop talkin about this game

Ive played hyrule warriors and was not my tbing but the fact that this one is related to botw, is a must buy of coirse
At least for me

It has a demo, why don't you try for yourself? ;)

As a huge fan of the original, I'm a little disappointed this has almost no battlefield management at all outside of a handful of side missions, which makes the vastly better map design feel somewhat pointless. Objectives are heavily focused on defeating specific enemies one after the other, and way too many side missions have time limits for no real reason.

That said, combat is more refined, and there are no "bad" movesets. The story... yeah. It's likely canon, but not in the way you probably expect. I've heard plenty of people say the matketing was misleading. It does take place 100 years in the past.
But it's not the events that lead up to the calamity as seen in BotW.
The opening cutscene doesn't exactly hide what's really going on though.

Personal side note: Playable scientists pls.

I got this for Christmas! I never played the original Hyrule Warriors, but I played the demo of Age of Calamity, and was like yes! I need this game. I knew though if I didn't get it for Christmas I was going to buy it anyway, but my dad managed to snag the last copy Game had apparently, so, super lucky there! :D

i'm playing it rn and i'm so into it, i love warriors style games to begin with (loved hw, fe:w was meh but it wasnt bc of the gameplay or music, everyone was just so much alike and i dont have the same attachment to as many fe characters as i do zelda ones) but also the "bs time travel to change the past" plot in media is one of my absolute favorites, like it can go very very wrong but its so COOL when its done even remotely competently which i think aoc does! i've only gotten past the story mission after all the champions are recruited and i already love how everyone interacts w each other 🥺😭 since multiple things have already happened differently compared to botw since the little guardian time traveled backward...i'm trying not to get my hopes up for a different ending to the champions story...i'm not sure if i can watch them die 😭😭 i've gotten so super attached to botw's characters (even revali,,,i've discovered theres a lot more to him than just "mean bird") so it's crazy to have a game where u can 1) play as the champions and 2) get to see more of how they interact with each other! imo if ur a fan of the world of botw and its characters specifically, u should have a lot more fun with this one!

edit: what was the problem u had w hyrule warriors specifically? bc if it was the gameplay, its still much the same in aoc,,,warriors style hack and slash, lot of mobs, big guys u have to take down,,,i like fighting/management/strategy games like this but i've learned that theyre not everyones cup of tea!
