Am I the only one who misses when our town/island didn't have daily visitors?

In the more recent Animal Crossing games... special characters such as; Redd, Saharah, Gracie, and Gulliver. Didn't always visit your town/island once a week/two weeks... but instead they would randomly visit your town/island. For example in the GameCube Animal Crossing... you would have to relay on things like the in-game mail to let you know when someone like Redd was going to visit your town, or Copper outside of the Police Station to let you know if/when your town was getting a visitor. And you would also have long periods of time where you wouldn't get any special visitors.

I feel like this more than anything made characters like Redd, Gulliver, Gracie, Saharah, etc... more special, and each of their visits more important... being as if you didn't play on the day they were visiting you didn't know when they would be in your town again. It also made them seem more alive, since it felt like they didn't just frequent your town/island once-a-week. Instead they were out doing other things, and they were only in your town to sell some stuff/do something. (even tho Gracie is just there, and waits for the player to try to clean her car.)

Am I the only one who misses this kind of thing... or am I alone in this? I know a lot of people wish the spawn rates for some one like Redd was higher, but I kinda feel like him coming infrequently makes things more interesting.

I like having them come Monday to Friday and you never know what one you're going to get so it's a surprise each time you go on.

It would be annoying if they rarely came to your island if you want something from them.

Also, i don't like the feeling of being held hostage by my game. I don't want to feel I HAVE to play on a certain time or day or else lose out.
The game shouldn't be a chore.

I would not be happy if they changed this to be less frequent.

Ooh this one is a hard topic!
I don't mind having Saharah, Gracie and Gulliver come less frequent. I agree with them coming less would make them more special.
But I really want Redd to come more often. I never can complete my art section in the museum!
I just come here for art now.
I love the police station and miss that so much. I wish someone would announce who is here.
I hate i have to go look for characters now.

I wouldn't mind having them come less frequently. Especially Gulliver. Now with the inclusion of Gullivarr, it's annoying hoping you got a different special character and then finding him. I guess Redd is really the only special character I actually WANT to find, at least in NH. In NL I did enjoy having Katrina pop up and desperately hope that I had a good luck item.

I like having daily visitors— the game feels empty without them. I generally hate Sundays after 12pm. In fact, I would not mind if we had a few more introduced, or the very least, have non-residents stop by the cafe when/if that is introduced.

I remember too well the chaos of last spring/summer before they set the once every two weeks sched to ever want to return to it or an even less regular schedule

I do kinda miss having days to just chill out and not worry about visitors. It feels a bit heavy-handed with how much routine the visitor schedule is and how little variety there's been since the introduction of Gullivarr. I probably would mind it a lot less if other visitors like Katrina or Gracie could rotate in instead of Label or Kicks every so often.

yeah part of me misses having days where there's nothing going on/nobody visiting because then it makes the days when they *do* visit more special, but at the same time I like having the daily activity of going to find whoever's visiting for the day! although some of the visitors I don't really talk to much, I'd love to have the reintroduction of Katrina perhaps and have her switch out with somebody like Labelle who doesn't serve much of a purpose other than the tailor tickets (which I rarely use now anyway)

Katrina would be great for something like luck based mini games like some card games or minesweeper. And maybe giving mystic supernatural themed items.

But I hope she never comes back if she brings good and bad luck back with her.
I HATED luck.

yess I'd love that!!! i never paid much attention to the different types of good luck but dear god did i hate bad luck - nothing ruined my day more than falling over every two seconds

I could handle the falling over (assuming not chasing a bug) but what really got me was not getting any money that day. You hit the money rock and its like "the best I can do is 1000 bells"

And then to not have bad luck, you have to wear an item you don't own and is not being sold that day.

It was a really annoying system.

Sure reality has bad days in it, but we play to escape reality.

I like having NPCs/visitors roaming the island, but I don't really like relying/waiting for visits to acquire things that should be more readily available.

My ideal scenario would be to have every NPC have their own store (on a Main Street or in this case some other island), so they are accessible whenever you want.

I disagree for the most part as I like the way it impacts how you might play that day. Such as catching more fish for CJ like I'm doing right now.
I dont think that he needs a store.

But someone like leif who sells shrubs that you need if you dont want your islands plants to look dead... he should have a shop.

Redd shouldn't have a shop but he should be more regular since even if he always has a bit of art you need (he absolutely will not always have art you need) he still takes like a year and a half to get all of it for the museum.

And kicks... kicks just sucks and should be removed from the game.
I mean a travelling sales man that sells like 20 items? How lame is he. Just put his couple of items on the able sisters and give us an NPC thats not a joke.

I wouldn't mind having some days with no visitors so I can just continue terraforming without having one of the wandering NPCs get in my way. My villagers are already bad enough.

Kicks really should have his own store though cause completing his catalog is a giant pain and I don't want to do it again.

The way I feel about it is actually summed up by your first post in the thread!

The game shouldn't be a chore.

Finding the daily visitor and interacting with them has felt like a chore to me after the novelty wore off the first few months. I'd still like the NPCs to be accessible, but if/when there is an item I need, I'd rather just be able to visit the NPC somewhere and get it rather than wait for the RNG/chance they are visiting that day or week.

Finding the daily visitor and interacting with them has felt like a chore to me after the novelty wore off the first few months. I'd still like the NPCs to be accessible, but I don't personally like having to log in every day just to see if the particular NPC I am looking for that week is visiting.
I stand by both my posts but I'm sure there is a better way that I cant think of.
I like the way visitors can change up your gameplay for the day.
And I also like the freedom to play how I want when I want.

I suppose since I've not been told who is showing up when, and that I've been in no hurry (minus redd who I TT to get the art from as I found out statistically he would take 3 or 4 years to complete) to get everything from visitors, this hasn't affected me too much.
As every day I do play has the potential to bring who I want (plus I don't miss that many days)

So to me its never been a chore because I haven't minded waiting.

I'm far from adverse to a main street.
It would be nice to have a place to go full of stuff.

But I also want the days to not all feel the same.

Its a hard one to know exactly what the answer is.

That makes sense, I wasn't trying to use your words against you at all (hope it didn't come across that way). I tend to fall more on the side of player convenience in most aspects of the game, even though I know it is sometimes antithetical to the game design.

No if anything it was food for thought.

From my end I dont mind waiting to make models of bugs so if I happen to miss flick, it's not a huge deal at all, and not knowing if he will or won't be about adds excitement to each day.
Them being rare and being told when they would come would add a sense of obligation.

But if I knew my island design needed, let's say 40 models, then knowing that's 80 weeks if you don't time travel, and having to play every day minus weekends... well that's just super lame
Daily would be far better for that.

An idea that I just came up with, so could be full of flaws, would be to add a main street type area, and in place of travelling NPCs, add days where your items sell for extra (not just hot items), days where items cost less, days where shops stay open longer, days when rare fish or bugs are more likely to spawn. (Make them one's you have already caught so that you don't need to play in order to complete the museum)
And... well I got nothing else yet
But it would make each day more unique

I don’t mind it, but I’m more indifferent. This isn’t really a feature I’ve thought much about, but I think Redd coming frequently is very important, especially if you don’t have WiFi capabilities. Redd sells variations of items that Nook doesn’t and if you’re on the hunt for a specific color and you do not have WiFi capabilities, you’re only chances are finding it in a tree, floating presents, getting it in a letter from a villager, or of course, from Redd.
