I didn't know how to play it at the start, so I panicked and thought getting president and being town would just keep me away from being investigated. Then everything just kinda got screwed

Wouldn't the president be the first person to be investigated, to make sure they weren't lying about their role? (Your logic isnt making much sense to me.)
