I was pretty sure that I've already seen a thread like this, but can't seem to find it anymore.

However, here is a new one to discuss possible amiibo functionality in New Horizons!

Right now I think that most amiibos will give us extra crafting materials. The Nook amiibo might give us some bells while the K.K. one might allow a private concert or something like that. But most of the villager amiibo cards won't trigger special events or anything groundbreaking. At least that are my thoughts.

What do you think will be the functionality of amiibo figures and amiibo cards in the upcoming game?

Crafting materials?
I don't want to craft everything and gather materials. Only for minor items.

I want to buy, with MEOW coupons, the actual item from amiibo RV's. I don't want to craft them.

If it's like PC where you need paper, cotton, wood, steel, and a heap of essence', I don't think I'd want to play. (I also hope this doesn't mean friendship levels like PC, because that would be the catalyst for me.)

There's already one Pocket Camp. We don't need a larger version.

In AC we've always purchased furniture sets from the Nook stores and in NL, we had Gracie's store.

Let's not change that!

I didn't mind the Amiibo functionality, but I always liked having villagers move in random and not through Amiibo cards. To be truthful, in New Leaf, I only used the cards to get items, so if the cards do the same thing like they did in New Leaf and they do give us craft materials, then that's great! Maybe once in awhile the craft material they give would be something really hard to find? ;)

I mean, the game comes out in 3 months so i doubt they'll change it. Also, they have the shovels and other stuff purchasable as well.

I disagree with this statement as well, I'm happy they shaped up the formula by providing something more we could do in-game.

Also, Harvey appeared on some official image. It's nice to see him but i'm not sure it means amiibo functionality.

There's already enough to do and with the demands the villagers will no doubt have (increased), and gathering materials to craft every thing, there will be no time for my real life and family.

I'm trying to keep an open mind and be positive, but I feel like I'm forcing myself to like NH just because it's AC.

There hasn't been a lot shown though, but what I've seen so far is mediocre. :(

As long as they are included in some way I'm happy. I bought all of the animal crossing amiibos and the amiibo cards of the villagers I want in preparation. lmao

I think this is actually a nice idea for part of the amiibo function! maybe when visiting Harvey you are able to select which animal one and to invite to the camp site for that day as per usual. Well, when you talk to that villager maybe it will be like wisps option menu where you decide what exactly you want that villager for. Items, to visit, or some other third option. If you choose items you will get the blueprints for the villagers special items they take with them while camping. If you summon them again later, you already have the blueprints so instead they will give you certain materials to go towards crafting.

As lame as this is, I just want them to be able to let you move in whichever villager you want given you have their card. I hate waiting for randomers only to get some ugly villager you hate lol.

There may be minigames inside NH (I really hope they bring back D.I.E Dessert Island Escale) that was fun to play! You may need to scan Amiibos in for that?

I was thinking that maybe you may be able to contact a villager you don't know using the Amiibo card to either get to know them through snail mail or e-mail and become pen friends and when your friendship level has increased to a certain point, they can visit and either camp in a tent or RV at the campsite, which I think can be expanded and upgraded but Harvey will tend to the grounds. We might even be able to ask him to do tasks that will have an effect on the grounds?

Another way is probably to unlock items? Each villager may have a special and favourite item and if we get one download per day for this, then we can unlock that item, for example:
Marshall: Favourite item - Sloppy Stereo
Would be a great way to get items from rare series!

They may be making Ammibo more interactive?

This is all I can think of atm ⸜(๑⃙⃘'ᵕ'๑⃙⃘)⸝⋆︎*

I mostly agree. It's not like I'd appreciate it if amiibo cards only give us X amount of hardwood oder wool that we need to craft certain items that the villager likes. But I could definitely see it happen, after what I've seen from Pocket Camp.

But I really love the idea to form a pen friendship with the villagers from the amiibo cards, eventually being able to invite them to your islanda after you cross a certain friendship level. That wouldn't make it too easy to get your favourite villagers because you'd still need to invest time and effort, but still enable you to get all your dreamies.

I also like the idea of getting special crafting recipes for items that the amiibo card villager loves. There certainly are some nice ways for Nintendo to include amiibo functionality!

I love that idea! It would make us work a little harder to get our favorite villagers instead of just asking them to move in. It would make them feel more real.

I personally love how Animal Crossing is now supported with Amiibo. I may not have the equipment at the moment. But there are people on here who offer shops/services for us to get our dream villagers for a small TBT payment. Some people even do it for FREE!

While I understand the appeal of just allowing random move-ins (which I do allow some for NL, and will for NH), it can be fustrating to get villagers we hate, and they refuse to move out. Now, I am not gonna rush to fill my island with dream villagers. But I am gonna want to start off with trying to obtain one or two when I begin.

Sure, we can make "looking for- [so-and-so], [so-and-so], and [so-and-so]" threads, but if we are unlucky enough, it can take Lord knows how long just to obtain a single dream villager. Thanks to Amiibo support and people having shops for this stuff, our chances of getting the villagers we want are incrased.

. . .

I am completely against getting rid of Amiibo Support, as this is optional. And is beneficial to a lot of us, whether we are getting desired villagers, or TBT.

Apparently Amazon still has quite a stock of Amiibo cards left over so might invest in some, but hopefully they are compatible with New Horizons. I don’t want to waste my money on them. >.>

If we have to unlock special items with certain villagers we may not be able to have who we want on our island. I've though a lot about this. We may have to boot out a villager we really like, to move one in that has the item you want to unlock, like PC.

Then I got to thinking about crafting and materials. If they add essence, that could also mean having a certain villager(s) on your island that gives you that particular essence.

PC players will understand what I'm getting at.
Also gathering materials like wood for example. It will run out during the day I imagine, which means you wouldn't be able to craft what you wanted, when you wanted it, as you'd need to maintain supplies.

I really, really don't want this to happen.

I loved refurbishing at Re-Tail.
Now if things work out the way I'm thinking they will, we won't be able to order from a regular AC catalogue anymore. We will have to craft what we want, if we've unlocked the item(s) and if we have the materials.

Friendship levels will also be a thing, I think.
Making it forced instead of the natural way friendships grow in AC, by doing optional requests, visiting the villagers, writing to them, etc.
I hope the levels from PC aren't there as this wouldn't be natural, it would be a chore.

It all ties in with crafting.

My post in no way is meant to be negative, it's just the direction NH is going to take, in my opinion.

Hey John!

I have also worried about this but I think that's what Harvey's cabin is for!
I think we will be able to have 2-5 villagerson the Camp Site Grounds, depending on expansion and if we do need essence, we can make them stay there until we need someone else! Plus, there are other islands too! ₍ᐢ⸝⸝› ̫ ‹⸝⸝ᐢ₎
So I'm also thinking we will have villagers there whom we can visit too! Kinda makes me excited a bit but I kinda don't want them to make the essence thing or I don't know???

In AC they always wanted us to get to know more villagers and they'd just move (or ask in NL) but I don't think we'll need to cycle through them so aggressively to get to know more people of there are new horizons we can travel to, to get to know them!
(? ꈊ ?)✧︎˖?オホッ!

Also, Aniibo functionality for NH hasn't been disclosed yet , so that may be another way to obtain certain items/essence.

I can't remember where I saw it but I'm sure they said that friendship lvl was exclusively for PC and would be hidden in the console game (I read that when PC first came out) some people got scared that friendship lvl would be a thing and didn't like it for mainline.

I do think they'll implement things from PC, but I don't think this will be Pocket Camp New Horizons or I'd have to go AWOL! Couldn't deal with that at all!

Actually, just had another thought! If there a more islands, one might be for Shovel Strike Quarry? So we might have to mine for materials too? So getting them from villagers might be optional? Idk...

You shouldn't have to justify your post! I think everyone should be able to voice their concerns and I think these are common concerns a lot of players have been worried about since the release of PC because... ideas lead to inventions

Thank you. ^_^

I didn't know about Harvey. That's great news. He's one of my favorites. Hopefully we can scan amiibo's there.

I'm not much on villager friendships as they are too demanding. I remember in NL hardly having time for my real family, so I started saying no to all requests except fruit, as it became tedious.

I don't like the essences. It will force us to have villagers we don't want, but hopefully it won't be a thing. Even if you can get them another way, it's still too much PC.

I can't shake this feeling in the pit of my stomach that it's going to be crafting, gathering materials, and maintaining it all.

There is already so much to do without keeping track of essence, steel, wood, cotton, and preserves. If that's what the game entails.

I've got my fingers crossed that it isn't. :(

Completely agree! I can't play something that sucks too much of my real life, the whole point of AC is to relax you...
I really think they'll have done some testing to see how long each task ect will take out if your life. If it takes too long, they'll probably reduce it somehow and I hope the finished product flows smoothly and takes the least amount of time so we can all enjoy island life!
We can only expect the worst and hope for the best! I'm monitoring the development very closely since I agree, this game should be complete and a worthwhile investment! ☆゚︎+.ヽ(ˇ㉨ˇ๑)ノ☆゚︎+.

As long as I'll be able to have my kitties, I'll be happy with the Amiibo functionality in New Horizons. Holding out hope that it'll be similar to New Leaf in that aspect.

as long as the monster hunter amiibo can still give you felyne i'm good lol

tbh I don't think we should get to ahead of ourselves with this. the crafting in PC and New Horizons from what we've seen are completely different, aside from needing materials. assuming that things like essence will be in New Horizons is a bold theory, and likely won't happen.

I don't believe that Nintendo is going to allow a free-to-play mobile game and an $80 Switch title to be too similar, aside from crafting.
