Amiibo Functionality

That's why I said "IF that's what the game entails."

Again. Waiting for the release, or more info from any possible direct.

Maybe an unpopular take but I wish Nintendo would do away with amiibos. Sure, they look neat and all but I don't want to buy toys for hundreds of dollars just to get the most out of my games.

Amiibos doesn't "add" anything to the games, they merely put stuff behind "paywalls".

I totally agree. I wish amiibo's just didn't exist, they're no better than microtransactions to me.

How so?
Once you own an amiibo figure or card you can use it forever. It's yours.

It's not leaf tickets.

I don't know much about Amiibo's but essentially, aren't they something you purchase to unlock additional items within the game? It's not a rhetorical question, that's genuinely my extremely limited understanding of what they do.

I hated them at first, but yeah, you can buy RV items from that amiibo with MEOW coupons (in New Leaf), but so can anyone you invite to your town.

That way the items can be shared, and not exclusive like those PC fortune cookies. :)

Comparing amiibo to micro transactions is horribly misguided as MT's are a PTW concept for mobile (and greedy game companies) getting only temporary access as once severs die, so does the 'shop' and amiibo are optional and aren't required to 'finish' a game (granted items, villagers and furniture shouldn't be the only way to get them, just an easier way to obtain them) and once you buy it its yours forever.

Also, amiibos and villager cards aren't a new concept and have been around since the GameCube days when they were called Nintendo e-Readers when they made some cards were used to add levels and the sort to expand game-play or add levels like mario advance.

I figured i just letting you know. :)

Like I said, my understanding of them is extremely limited and that's putting it mildly.

I really hope that some items are not locked behind Amiibo cards like with the New Leaf update. TBH, those weren't much better than microtransactions. They're just Nintendo's unique way of slipping them through so people who don't think much about it won't realize that they're still very scummy.

I get they're not 100% as bad as microtransactions, because they can be shared and stuff, but like my attempts at setting up a session with someone who had the trumpet and alto saxophone villager card has never panned out when I've tried. Just put those items in the game normally. They should have just been there to begin with.

If no exclusive content is locked behind them and they're just like "use this Amiibo card to gain this certain villager on-demand" or something like that, I don't mind them. Just as long as that villager is in the game as a villager you can get through the normal random means. The NL Welcome Amiibo usage for them is scummy and I stand by that.

If you needed any particular item from an RV, I could have helped back then, or the many others that had free RV visits.

Just a couple of quotes from the Amiibo page...….

"Get cool in-game extras with amiibo accessories"

"You might get new outfits, power-ups, or other fun bonuses"

So basically, somebody that purchases an Amiibo will get access to game content that somebody without an amiibo will not? Is that correct? If so, I don't like the concept.

While I can't say I was super persistent, I can say I did try at least a couple of different topics on these forums and never got a response. I'm sure that's not the norm, but in the end I gave up.

EDIT: Oh and get this: If they do this again, getting the items from other people online now comes behind another scummy payment for Nintendo's crappy NSO.

So you're saying that items that you catalogue made available via an amiibo, you can purchase them and share around just like any normal item?

IIRC it didn't quite work that way. I don't think they could be ordered through the catalog. So in order to share them you had to set up the villager's RV and invite the person over who wanted the exclusive items from the RV.

I see. I didn't think it would be quite as easy as that as Nintendo would want people to buy their own. Although the term "villager's RV" doesn't mean anything to me. What is that?

Indeed, when I think about it, I'm surprised that Nintendo even allowed this.

IIRC each card came with a villager (animal villager that didn't appear in NL's base game) and they came in an RV where they would have new items from Happy Home Designer, and you could order them like you could order objects like in homes from people you StreetPassed.

I see. Envy/John Wick - thanks for info about how they work.

It seems a lot of features and terminology are lost on me, as I haven't played an Animal Crossing game since City Folk. Handheld/mobile gaming just doesn't appeal to me.

You buy them with MEOW coupons you get in NL from doing Isabelle's daily tasks.

The item can only be ordered from the RV.

It doesn't cost real money.

I invested in amiibo's and always let people come over and get what they wanted when I had my town.

They aren't anything like MT's.

Those are underhanded, vile practices.
In my opinion.

Yeah, I'm not much for online trading. It's forced internet, in my opinion. It makes me sick that if I want to trade, I'll have to pay for a Nintendo Online account.

Like buying the switch, and game at over $550+ AUD isn't enough.
