Playing Animal Crossing has become a chore, rather than play it for the fun of it.

I wish I could just put the game away for a week or so, or even longer and come back to it at a later time. But then my hybrids would wither, I will possibly miss certain items I still need to complete my catalogue etc.

So I have no choice but to keep playing, even though I don't feel like it.

Do you have any tips on how to cope with this?

It definitely sounds like you should step away for awhile. >>

I would never play a game that became a chore because it's a game and it's supposed to be fun!

Just switch your town to Beautiful Ordinance and go on hiatus. ^^

Like gh0st said, you should take a little break from the game for now. Games are supposed to be fun, not a chore. lol So just take a break and play something else for now. At least, until you want to get back into the game.

Yes, get beautiful town ordinance ( make sure you wait until the next day to stop playing because beautiful town doesn't go into affect until the next day).

Make sure you stop playing on a day that you told a villager not to move. This will ensure that no one will have moved when you return.

You can also just make note of the date in your 3ds system that you stop playing. After your hiatus, you can just change the 3ds clock back to said date, and your Animal Crossing game will still be on the same day as the one you left.

Like they said just switch your town to beautiful I have tons of flowers in my main town and nine of them have wilted, I've gone months without playing, too. Though that's how my beloved Aurora moved away <\3

I forgot tell you, I play the older Animal Crossing games the most, like Let's go to the city and the gamecube one.

New Leaf is not the issue.

You know what? Take a break, don't worry, It's just a game. Relax, and forget about it, And when you get back, (Should be for a week or so) If your hybrids are dead, it's no big deal!

Just go on hiatus and TT to the date you last played when you want to carry on. If you still can't get into the groove then it may be worth saying goodbye to animal crossing...

and for future reference, at least with New Leaf, when you enact Beautiful Town ordinance you have to wait another day before it goes into effect...

If you are a completionist then I could see how this game would be an issue. If you are not then there is nothing wrong with liquidating everything you have in your game, setting it down for a while and restarting a new town fresh. It's always nice to come back and experience a town for the first time.

I played both Wild World and New Leaf for over 1,000 consecutive days. I went through the burden feeling in both games. How did I get through it to keep on playing? I switched things up. I know every bit of normal dialog in both games having seen it easily thousands of times, so I had to start getting creative in how I played. Don't feel so pressured to go to the store first. I know I don't have a 100% catalog in either game (yet, I want to in New Leaf, but that's going to require someone who cheats or got hacked items from a cheater since they never got released), and only talk to specific villagers- ones who I know I'll never grow tired of because I absolutely love them. It also helps if you have more than 1 favorite living in your town so you can talk to them. This is more important on New Leaf, because you'll depend on them more for finding out who's moving- or if you don't care, only talk to ones you want to keep. Only works on Wild World and after, the GameCube they just move out without any way of stopping them. What I also did was rearrange the town. Put the flowers in different spots, see if you can maybe grow the hardest flower possible on your own.

If you said GameCube's is what you play more, don't play it for the game, play the NES games, it's not like it doesn't have plenty of them! City Folk without Wi-Fi is a bigger problem to overcome, that was the biggest selling point, what I do is go to the city more, take pictures, try to do some funny stuff.

The biggest key in all this is feeling like you HAVE to play. Take a one day break from the store, and just talk to villagers more. Sometimes when you change their catchphrase to "you suck" it'll make for some funnier lines. Greeting can be fun too "Hey, moron!" or "Shut up stupid!", it makes some funny picks too!! ;)

I feel the EXACT same way... AC is like a curse...once you start it you can never stop.. Like.. Why not give us a "pause" option to pause tkme for a while when our lives get busy and wr cant play as much?

Same here! I mean, I'm busy with school work, Taekwondo, youth group... And playing my Wii U is easier than playing ACNL, because there's so much you gotta do in AC. I haven't played much as of recently, and because of this, my favorite villager... is moving today....

I saw on a thread somewhere yestderday a way that you can step away from the game for as long as you like and do some trick with your 3ds date to make the game think you never left

I had to go digging for it, but I found!

BEFORE GOING ON HIATUS

You can use the tips/tricks in this guide even without prior preparation, but if you do a few things before going on hiatus you can make things a little easier for yourself later on.

Before you go…

Set the town’s ordinance to the “Beautiful Town” ordinance. This will keep hybrids from wilting and keep the weeds at bay later when we TT.
Most importantly: Take note of the date you last saved/quit your game. You will need this later! (P.S. If you don’t have paper/pen handy, go to your 3DS’ home screen and then click the pencil icon at the top to write it in the game notes.)

COMING BACK FROM HIATUS - DO NOT LOAD YOUR GAME!

You must do the following before loading your game!

Go to the Nintendo 3DS’ System Settings menu from the home screen.
Choose “Other Things”.
Choose “Date & Time”.
Change “Today’s Date” so that it matches the last date that you played. If you cannot remember the last day you played set it back to a date that you know is BEFORE the last date you played. It is better to choose an older date than it is to choose a date that is sometime after your last time playing.
A tip from stalk-market: “For those not sure when you last played, you can look in your activity log and check your software library. When you click on New Leaf it’ll say when you last played!”
Make sure the time is set to a time that all your villagers will be awake. If not, change it.
Load your ACNL game.
If you loaded your game on the SAME DAY that you last played, you shouldn’t experience any villager loss. If you load your game anytime BEFORE that day, it is possible for a villager to move if they had already planned on moving. This sounds silly, but TT'ing backwards any length of time greater than or equal to 1 day, counts as just 'one day’.

For example, if it is 12/5 and you TT back to 12/1, that’s 4 calendar days. However, the ACNL game counts this as just '1 day’ passing in terms of villager movement.

GETTING BACK TO THE PRESENT

So hopefully, you’ve made it back to the last time you played without losing any villagers- but how do you get to the present day without having to TT day by day? Follow these steps…

Talk to each of your villagers once to make sure you are on speaking terms with them. You can tell if you’re on speaking terms with them if when you talk to them they greet you and then the game offers you the standard dialog box (which is something like “What’s new?” and “Nevermind.”)
Once you’ve done that, save and quit your game. Then, reload the game (same day, don’t change the time at all yet).
Walk in front of the villagers that are strolling outside in your town. There are usually 5 of these guys out and about. You’re looking for one of them to 'ping’ you. That is, make a surprised emote and then run up to you.
If someone does run up to you, talk to them and see what they say. If they want to move, deny their request.
If none of the five villagers that are outside run up to you, save and quit, then reload the game to cycle the villagers that are in their homes.
If you’ve walked in front of all the villagers in your town at least once, and none of them ping you- save and quit, then TT ONE DAY FORWARD and repeat the process of walking in front of all your villagers until they ping and one of them asks to move. Once this happens, deny the request.
Once you’ve denied a request to move you’re free to TT forward as far as you want. So, after you’ve saved/quit your game, go back to system settings and correct the date/time. Then, load your ACNL game and ta-da! You’re back to the present!

Same here, I got bored of GCN, WW, and CF, so I just quit them for a while. I think the biggest problem is the villagers, especially if you are playing a game without wi-fi(anymore). I think only one villager can move out at most if stop playing for a really long time, but I'm not sure. I wouldn't worry about it. Doing the same stressful thing everyday is probably what makes the game a burden.

Take a break. You should never do anything that was originally fun and now it's become a chore - that's where it needs to stop. If you're really worried about flowers etc, why don't you time travel a little or put in the beautiful ordinance? Or just let go and have a more relaxed, natural town - sometimes it's a lot more fun when you don't have to maintain everything all the time!
