Happy 10th anniversary, Animal Crossing: The Movie!!

Today, Gekijōban Dōbutsu no Mori (referred to as Animal Crossing: The Movie in English) has turned 10 years old as it was first shown in cinemas in Japan on December 16, 2006. It was made by Toho, in association with Nintendo. The movie gained a huge amount of praise with many calling it one of the best video game movies. It was so successful in Japan that it spawned a lot of merchandise such as plush dolls and 2007 calendars. It was later released on DVD on July 25, 2007 and on DS video card on August 8, 2009. Sadly the film was only released in Japan however the film later received an English fandub in 2015, though it is only available through internet.

I really love this movie. It is not only my favourite video game movie but it's also my favourite movie of all time. All of the characters are nice and memorable, the plot is well-written, it has some funny moments (even a few sad ones) and the animation looks beautiful. I really like some of the character redesigns in this movie, such as Rosie having improved eyes and the characters having hands and feet. It's a shame they didn't stuck with the redesigns in the later games. Some of my favourite moments are when Hopper is fishing, and he ends up catching an Easter Island head. He then says with a deep voice: "No way... I'm too old for this!". It kinda reminds me of the earlier seasons of SpongeBob for some reason (which were also really good in my opinion).

Today, I will watch the entire movie all the way through with hardly any breaks. It's just that good (in my opinion). I will be watching the English fandub however since I don't know Japanese and I prefer not to read subtitles for around 87 minutes.

If you haven't seen the movie already, then I'd really recommend giving it a watch. You'll probably end up loving it (and if you don't, then you may need to check yourself).

EDIT: I'm going to have to watch it tomorrow instead due to me not having enough free time today as well as the fact that I'm not in the mood today. Now I have to wait even longer to see the movie. Curse you, life and depression, curse you!!

I'd need to see it again; I remember it being harder to find 10 years ago so it was kinda weird to me that they had made an Animal Crossing anime movie; I saw it after picking up New Leaf and I really like the version of K.K. Bossa in the movie, and Rosie/Bouquet is just too cute.

I agree. Rosie is one of my favourite characters in the movie (still can't decide on who my favourite character in the movie is though). I like your signature at the time of posting this, since it has Rosie from the movie.

OMGMGOOMGOMG THERE WAS A MOVIE? CAN YOU LINK ME TO THE ENGLISH DUB PLZZZZZZZ

Happy 10th birthday movie! They really need to make a 2nd movie with new villagers included as well. The main character becomes mayor and Margie reunites.

That sounds like a good idea, though didn't-- no, I won't spoil it. But I think they should make an animated series with the same characters and some new ones. The first few episodes can be like a re-telling of the movie of some sort. The main characters (Ai, Yu, Rosie, Alfonso, Margie etc.) should never move out unless it's for only one episode. The rest of the characters (such as Cyrano and Cesar) can be swapped maybe every season (and still have the old villagers from older seasons make cameos in newer seasons). There should also be a new mayor that's not Tortimer and we should never get to see his/her face, making them mysterious. What should Tom Nook's job be though? Should he have the same role he did in the movie or should he work at Nook's Homes like in New Leaf? Maybe to make it more modern they should have him work at Nook's Homes, even though I like him being a shopkeeper more.

Ah I love this movie so much!!! It's just such a sweet little story and I always sit and watch a few of my favourite scenes when I'm down, it cheers me up considerably! Animal Crossing: Wild World was the first game in the series that I played and this movie really brought me back to those happy and more carefree times, I especially adore the way they used the music from the game. So many memories! Also K.K. Bossa is one of my favourite songs from animal crossing so it made it even better when it was featured in the movie ^_^ I found the way they gave the characters different outfits depending on the season, the winter ones were just adorable! Also the cameos of all the different NPCs you can encounter throughout the game really made me more engaged as I remembered my experiences with meeting them in the game. It also featured a few of my favourite villagers, namely Whitney! (I still liked seeing her, even if she had quite a different personality than in the games!) It is a lovely little film with a nice message about finding what makes you happy. Even if it is quite a simple movie to some, it will always have a place in my heart! <3
