So Chief is in boxes today, and if i'm not mistaken it's okay to time travel back in time in the same day right? Like 6pm now to like 6am in the morning or something, will Chief still be on boxes? I just want to give some more time for him so that i could give him away to a new owner

As long as you don’t let the game move to a different day while logged in he should stay in boxes. I have had a villager stay in boxes for multiple days this way.

Yeah it will stay that way, I’ve tested it before, granted it wasn’t for a villager moving, but the same rules should apply.
Just be aware that even going backward one minute will cause all turnips to rot, so I advise you get those sold right away to somebody if you have them. Otherwise, there is nothing else that will happen.
