My island has started stuttering and I'm not 100% sure why.
Tends to be at its worst during noon and not too bad at night.

I understand why on islands with lots going on but that's just not my island. I've been to busier islands where it doesn't happen.

I've removed so many flowers from my island that I fear if I remove any more I will lose my 5 stars. Hasn't really helped.

I've only got 2 waterfalls on my island and they're not fancy ones, just normal ones for my river.

Its kinda making me want to not play.
Not sure what I can do about it.

There are 2 areas of my island that have a fair bit of stuff but the frame rate issues don't happen at either of them

One thing I did when I was trying to reduce frame drop for my dream address was run around the most laggy areas and take away 1 item at a time until the lagging stops or reduces. For me it usually took a couple trees or 2-3 items before the frame rate got better. This might effect your island rating though which I know you mentioned.

It really is a problem though so I kinda gave up and learned to live with the lag.

I have the same. It started right after the bunny day update, even though my island is not heavily decorated. Areas that I hardly touched in months suddenly started to stutter (especially during the day or when its windy, not so much in the evening). I hope the framerate will go back to normal after bunny day/ cherry blossoms.

I’ve found anything that moves in the wind or is otherwise dynamic (which is a lot of items that are interactable, and especially plants) will cause the stuttering to become worse.

I think I heard that turning off music players can also help with the stuttering issue.

I am not sure if this is true or not, but I think it is worse on windy days on my island.

I don’t think if my island as super crowded either (I don’t have extra waterfalls, for example - though I display a lot of festivale items which I think all move a lot) but I notice it some days it seems to really lag a bit.

so far not to the point where it is unbearable, but it is a little distracting at times.

sorry this is frustrating you so m

My island started stuttering today out of nowhere too. Never had this issue before. Think it might have something to do with the cherry blossoms, but I don't remember it happening yesterday...

I don't really think there's a way around it aside from clearing out the most problematic areas. While the weather system makes for some amazing visuals, I think having to perform so many calculations makes it difficult for the game to run it smoothly. You could also try just staying in the area for a little bit to allow everything to load in, but I realize that doesn't really fix it.

I think the only way around it would be to hope for a more powerful console or modding (but I'm not really sure if that's possible).

In a way, I think it's kind of funny how AC--a traditionally simple game--got to be so power-hungry.

I am now in the process of destroying my favourite part of the island.
Yay. Love this game so much right now

I stripped the area with the biggest drops barren.
Destroyed the duck pond. Sold all the flowers.
No change.

Kinda pathetic if you ask me

I think it may be a seasonal hiccup. Sorry you destroyed an area of your island, but maybe wait it out and if it's not fixed when the Bunny Day and cherry blossom seasons end, then continue further drastic measures?

I skipped past both to test it :/

Do you use a lot of custom designs on your island?
I've heard that using a lot of those can cause issues.

I do feel your frustration though, every time I notice frame drops it bothers me and then I just stop decorating entirely for a long period of time out of fear that it gets worse.

I'm sorry this is causing you so much grief. Besides what other folks have already mentioned, may I ask how often you turn off your Switch?

This was months ago, but I noticed frame rate drops around the section of my previous map where my shops were located. I started turning off my console every night, and they were less noticeable.

After a myriad of updates, they still have yet to optimise this game for Nintendo Switch. Maybe a hardware upgrade might fix this issue.
