Gotcha I’ve been using the cloud save for a long time and sometimes go places without internet and it works. Sometimes it does this “checking data “ thing when I open my mailbox or “checking to see if it can play this game “ thing no idea why than loads. I do agree with prior comments about how we don’t own anything anymore. I think that really ended with the 3ds and even that has the digital store.
Oh mine does that too! The "checking to see if it can play this game" before I load the game. It's odd. I wonder if that has to do with cloud saves? It never used to but within the last year or two it now does it often enough for it to be puzzling.

I have only gotten the “checking to see if it can play this game" on New Horizons which made me think it had to do with the DLC. Since on my second switch my second character doesn’t have access to the DLC.
You know what, you're probably right! Cause the only thing that's changed for me was getting the DLC so that makes sense!
I really hope that is it and nothing nefarious I’d rather lose my 1000 dollar gaming laptop and my 500 dollar steam deck than lose my island.
Yea that was the only thing that had changed for me as well.
No me either I would be heart broken. I consider my switch my most valuable possession because it has my nh island on it I’d part with anything if it meant keeping it forever
