For two nights now I've been searching for them. I know the Jewel Beetle spawns on a tree stump and the Atlas Moth spawns on a tree. Just can't find them. :(

I actually caught one earlier. They spawn from 7 PM - 4 AM.

Atlas moths spawn quite rarely for me, i found it quite easy to find them at night on the islands. If you remove everything but a couple of trees they would normally show up

I caught a Jewel beetle yesterday just chillin on a stump near my flower patch! I've only seen 2 since then though so they may be rarer that other bugs?

I hate those moths. lol I got kind of scared while running between trees and one of those flew away. it was so big that I think it blew me away a few meters. lol

I caught a jewel beetle but haven’t caught an atlas moth yet, I don’t even realise they’re there until I run past it and get a fright because it’s flown away haha

I caught an atlas moth! I've only see it twice, the first time it flew away but the second time I caught the creepy creature.

I caught an atlas moth too, I've only seen two so far - the other one stitches was trying to catch and scared it away...

I caught an atlas moth on an island yesterday. Took 3 of 4 attempts because it kept flying away. I'm yet to see a jewel beetle yet though

Phew... Well I least I know they are out there now and IGN's wiki isn't wrong.

I don't look forward to looking for all of the beetles that come out in July and August. They were so rare in Wild World and all later games. But at least in New Leaf they were fairly common on Tortimor Island.

I've caught quite a few Atlas Moths. They're on the trees at night.

Hold A to sneak

Oh so the jewel beetles spawn on stumps too? That's good news. Haven't seen any of those on trees yet, but have caught two Atlas Moths. Both on trees near my beaches.

Blathers' explanation was sad - didn't know they die within a few days. Bugs are so cool

OMG I used to hate the Oak Silk Moths (and to a lesser extent the lantern fly) in ACNL because the noise when you scared them away would scare me. The Atlas Moth doesn't make the same noise so for me it's so much better.

I agree with the people saying go to islands at night. I've seen them on both coconut trees and fruit/hardwood trees on the islands.

They're easy to scare off, so hold A down to sneak, and pause if you see their wings start to curl. When their wings uncurl, you can move forward again. Don't release A until you're ready to swing the net to catch them.

Atlas moth, yes. Jewel beetle no. I keep getting spawns for it on the one stump I have. But it keeps being a glitchy spawn where I literally can't see anything there (it just looks like a stump). It seems like it might be spawning either behind or in the stump. I don't know. I think I'm going to try making new stumps to see what happens.

I have not seen a jewel beetle yet. Though I also have no stumps, so that might be it. I didn't even know jewel beetles appeared this month.

As others have said, the jewel beetle shows up on tree stumps. It doesn't the type of tree, either. And a trick to catching the atlas moth is to hold A while walking toward it to more or less tip toe. Once you've reached the perimeter of the trees shadow, and you're aimed at the behemoth, release A. I missed my first one because I was too close.

I only need the flea to round out the March and April bug and fish list.
