Back in 2020, I did (what I think is) a funny thing where I would leave noticies on the bulletin board of Islands I visited in the style of hotel/ resort reviews. Things like "Management were lovely, the beach activities that were organised were fantastic, I would definitely visit again!"

I was thinking of doing that again, but visiting dream addresses and reviewing islands by specific metrics. The metrics I have right now are:
  • prettiness/ how good it looks
  • ease of access/ how easy it is to get around the island
  • Playable/ e.g. could you catch a string fish on your island? could you 100% the museum
Some of these wouldn't be applicable to certain themed towns that I feel like were more designed for visitors rather than the player themselves, e.g. a Maze Island wouldn't be judged on ease of access, and a town designed to look like a specific place would be judged on that rather than "no tree stumps so you can't catch a citrus long-horned beetle, automatic fail".

Do you have any feedback? What kind of things do you think Islands should be judged on? I don't necessarily want to go by 5 STARS or HAS ALL HYBRIDS or ALL DREAM VILLAGERS, and in the same vein I'm not planning on trashing any islands or being mean (no rock garden!! 1/5 stars!!)

What other metrics do you think are important for an island to have? What makes YOU want to visit other people's islands? What are you proud of in your island?

-----
Additional ideas mentioned:
  • creative use of items for decoration!
  • uniqueness score

Hi astrocookie, welcome to TBT! I think your postings on island bulletins boards is very creative and fun! Maybe something about creative use of particular items or uniqueness of the island? Or maybe how they terraformed their waterways. Again, these wouldn’t be too useful on certain islands, but I bet if you’ve visited a lot of dream islands you’ve seen some pretty amazing builds. I’ve visited a few islands in dreams, but I can’t say a lot. But, what drew me to the ones I specifically visited was just like I suggested to you. Some are just so unique and use items in ways most wouldn’t even think of. I love to visit those players islands.
For me, I can’t say I am proud of anything on my island…and I’m ok with that. I don’t really spend a lot of time decorating. I mostly love to craft, visit with the residents, etc. I’m not the typical player!

Yesss, unique-ness or.. ingenuity! When people make amazing builds using items for not exactly what they were designed for it awesome! Creative use of items for decoration should definitely be added to the list!

Nothing wrong with playing the game in that way, that is definitely more what the older games were about :3 sometimes I find other's islands soooo intimidating from the amount of stuff they have!

Haha, just gotta say! my iPad must have autocorrected because I am suuurre I didn’t right astro”cookie” LOL!! Hopefully we will hear more about your island board activities in the future!
