I'm not sure if it's just me but watching the trailer I was a little bit disappointed with the way the colours looked and I'm really hoping they're not the finally-chosen palette?

To me the colours are way too overexposed and soft making things look *too* animated, and my eyes were begging for some darker tones to bring some balance. In some more published footage it does show the colours darkening with time of day but I'm still really worried that morning/mid-day colours will be these horrible pastels without the countered darkness.

Does anyone else feel the same? It almost puts me off wanting to play completely :(

This doesn't help but I personally LOVE the graphics!!! It's very pleasing to the (my) eye.

As long as we can adjust the settings! I can't play when things are too bright! Sometimes I find my 3DS screen is too bright on brightness setting [1]!!!

I think you're right about the over exposure too! I know we're on an island now but even Kapp'n's island wasn't this bright!
Also yes I prefer it to be more on the pastel side, I'm not afraid of bold colours but my eyes are ガ-(|||oロo)|||-ン

I feel like it's not really the color that bothers me, rather the lack of texture. I'm used to playing Animal Crossing on the Gamecube so when I look at this newer game it looks overly smooth and it kinda bothers me.

That's probably party because of the Switch's HD capability though. Although I have to say even City Folk didn't bother me. Idk maybe the color saturation has something to do with it.

I am assuming you mean the trailer from e3, and if that is the case Nintendo has since released screen shots and the commercial that show they added a lot more shadow work into the graphics and while it is still pretty bright I think they toned it down a good amount. My main issue with the original trailer and gameplay was the graphics looked too flat and only really one bright bright pale color. But the improvements they made have helped with that a lot!

From what I've seen so far I really like the graphics. The sunshine might be a little bit too intense at first glance, but I think with your preferred brightness setting you'll get used to it.

The graphics look fine to me too. On a side-note, that's an Orange tulip I can see in Irishchai's post. I think that's the first time I've noticed that. They wasn't in City Folk was they? I have played any AC games since CF; was they in WW or NL?

i can see why opinion on them is divided, but i personally like the more flat, pastel colours and think they suit the graphics.

Hybrid Flowers existed in CF, although I cannot specifically confirm if orange tulips could be made. Orange tulips for sure existed in NL.

Yeah I just checked and it was only Purple, Pink and Black tulips in City Folk. Probably a few other types I'm not aware of that are in WW and NL. I hope NH introduce some new variations. :D

I love the soft, pastel colours of the game we've seen so far. And all the new plants have me oohing and aahing each time I watch a video haha.

They seem a little too super Mario Imo, they look nice, but just leaning towards plasticy. After a qhile, I'm sure qe won't notice it.

I love the graphics, personally. A more stylized approach to the art style works sooo well for Animal Crossing.

The colors seem fine to me, too. If you look at the town during summer, it has nicer, dark tones as opposed to the lighter ones from spring, which makes sense to me.

Yess I think this is a better articulation of my problem with it! I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong but you're right everything seems a little bit toooo smooth, especially the sand on the main demonstration video. I imagine adding texture is the last thing they add to the rendering so maybe (hopefully) the published game will feel a bit more full.

Yes this was my concern. Even looking at the video you uploaded the game looks quite bright and even a bit faded in color (I suppose you could day it's pastel, I prefer the deeper colors of New Leaf personally).

Also I would like to take a sec just to appreciate that the cherry blossom trees actually have sakuras on them now instead of simple pink leaves :>

I found the graphics a bit weird to get used to, but after looking at them more I think I like them. I don't have a strong opinion about them at this point, just that they look alright. Perhaps I'd change a few things about them but they're not going to constantly bother me like some other recent games have. Civ 6 I'm looking at you.

This seems like the same problem with LM3 where the issue was is that everything looked a bit too bright for its promo and trailers (a semi dark mansion being that bright was odd, but i think it was for demo purposes), but once it released, it looked fine.

I think that will apply to this as well, as the team was running a build that will be totally different from the final version, but i could be wrong (I mean, i live in Florida when the sun is out, its like the contrast has been upped some XD so maybe its something that i'm used to seeing here)

We'll have to wait for the final trailer before the release (the TV spot for JPN doesn't count) It will probably be like NL and comes out a week before release.
