I have a hard time not looking into social media apps throughout the day spending hours during the day scrolling at the same old things over and over. I tried to delete them, then a few days later I willingly re activate them again for some strange reason. I get bummed out because I know I could be doing something better like reading a book etc...

I kinda wanted to know if anyone else goes through this in life?

i kind of feel that, but i spend a lot of time on social media talking to people so at least i can kinda pretend it's good for my mental health while i'm in isolation

but yeah it's a huge time suck and i definitely start to feel lazy after a while

i had to quit one app that was really toxic and the only way i could get myself to stop was leechblocking

Oh man, Reddit and Twitter are my worst ones I spend my time on lately, I usually don't interact but just lurk on people opinions on topics a lot. I had Instagram for family reasons but looking at pictures of people going to parties and getting drunk was kinda lame to me... so I suesscfully stopped using Instagram

yeah, twitter was the one i had to quit because it was just making me more upset than happy at a certain point

instagram i still have only for cat pics

I think I've gotten better over time but yeah, I'd definitely say it's a bad habit considering it's the first thing I check every morning. my biggest time suck at the moment is tiktok - I've had to put a timer on it so that I don't just lie there for hours on end scrolling

Yup, whenever I'm sitting around not occupied by something else I reach for my phone and start scrolling through Instagram. I never even have messages or anything, I just compulsively feel the need to be looking at something. And then I get bored & discouraged because I just see the same things over and over again. Wish I could break that habit!

I feel really pressured to use things like instagram and Twitter for 'building my brand' as an artist or something, especially because I need to crowdfund my current project but I find wrangling the algorithms so draining and the general spaces really overwhelming and impersonal? ;-;
Honestly a lot happier on here than big social media platforms, the forum set up feels more personal, more conversational, and less content/audience dynamic ;-;

oh yes, i look at social media way too much if im not playing video games, though it has been slowing down lately as twitter is just...twitter. and instagram i only follow a few people so catching up once a day is better than visiting multiple times

then again i have adhd so i just go nuts lol

I can usually catch myself before I mindlessly scroll through social media, and when I don't I usually just find myself watching videos of people trimming/dyeing their hair or doing makeup (I don't do that stuff myself but I enjoy watching it). used to have a bigger problem with it but not anymore.

besides that, no I actually don't have an issue with social media addiction. the only social media platform I still use is Facebook, and I'm actually considering getting off there for a while cause that's where all those stupid conservative bs pictures I find come from. i do stay on this forum to talk to ppl and I sometimes check it impulsively if I'm waiting for a reply from someone, but I don't blindly scroll through here for hours.

Yes, definitely!! I feel like I spend entirely too much time on social media, especially after staring at a screen all day for work. Even when I try to limit my own screen time and social media use I slip back into old habits and suddenly I find I've been scrolling through instagram or tik tok for like 3 hours when I was supposed to be sleeping. Then I wonder why I'm tired! 😂

I think it's been especially bad since I started working from home, it's almost like one big endless scroll through social media, day and night. I want to do better this year. I'd like to try to even cut down my use by 30 minutes a day. I try to use the screentime feature on my phone to let me know when I've done too much and need to cut back.

Mine is probably doom scrolling. Most of the time none of the information is new but I just can't look away. It ends up stressing me out and eating up a huge chunk of time.

Man, I hate when I want to play a game, I just think about looking up something on my phone real quick the later turning into a long waste of time lol

Yes I have a terrible habit of checking social media. It's the first thing I do when I wake up is reach for my phone. I'm mindlessly switching between apps on my phone all day long usually. Even on my breaks at work I'm whipping out that phone to switch between FB, Twitter instagram and thebelltree. I just need constant stimulus and social media provides that for me lol.

Outside of the occasional forum like this one, I have avoided joining any other type of social media. I have had issues with becoming addicted to forums, though. I guess it's the fear of missing out so I feel like I need to read every post and when I don't have time to do that I get stressed and anxious. So then I start putting checking in on the forum above other things that should be more important like my job or my family.

Luckily, I realized it was getting bad before it took over my life too much. So now I set limits for myself on which sections of the forum I'll check and I try to only check in at specific times unless I have nothing better to do.

It's a hard habit to break, I've definitely caught myself mindlessly scrolling on my phone to avoid the things I need to do in real life. I also stay up way too late looking at my phone. I'm getting better at it though and I've recently cleaned up my phone screen, which has helped alot. I've only kept facebook to stay up to date on what my friends are doing, and instagram which I genuinely enjoy looking at. I don't have twitter, snapchat, or tiktok.

I hardly use social media but sometimes find myself looking at my Instagram and Snapchat feeds for no good reason and eventually start feeling depressed afterwards. So I guess I shouldn't use it as much as I do, even if it's less than the average person.

I stopped using all my social media a few years ago during school due to depression and not wanting to interact with people I knew irl. Not sure if it helped my mental health or not though, it kinda makes me feel out of touch and isolated sometimes, but I definitely still prefer my privacy.

I still talk to my friends over FB messenger, and I've been considering starting a new Instagram, twitter, tiktok, and Facebook now that I have a new phone. Not gonna use snapchat again though, the map tracking feature they added freaked me out tbh.

I only browse social media when I'm bored, tbh. I do it at work when business is slow (although, I've started bringing books with me to read instead). My current habit is basically as follows...wake up/check twitter to see what new developments are happening (usually nothing good). After that, I go about my daily activities...sometimes browsing Facebook to see what people are up to. For the most part, the main chunk of my day proceeds without much social media browsing. Then I check FB and twitter again in the evening. And that's about it. Like I said...it's a boredom thing, so I usually try to counter it by playing video games, watching movies, reading books, or generally anything else that kills time in place of it.

I disabled most of my social media accounts earlier this month. Recently had a large falling out with my extended family and blocking them was not enough to curb the negative feelings that came with that.

I currently use one forum (this one) and an Instagram account where I post my creative content but don't follow anyone so there is no mindless scrolling. I feel so much better for it.
