So I've tried doing a headshot a few times. Their faces aren't SO bad, but once I do the hair and take a step back it looks really umm 'dodgy' like their hair isn't apart of them or something HAHA its hard to explain

Its mostly the hair that falls on their forehead? I tend to add another layer and set the settings so the lines I do is very light- then I go around the hair so it looks like a shadow but obv this is wrong

Would it be best to get a darker shade to their skin and go around the hair in places that land on their forehead

Does anyone have any advice on drawing hair that falls on their face etc or maybe know a good tutorial

Thanks

I recommend looking at a picture you like and try 'copying' it. You may improve by trying out other styles.

heres an example of what i mean- its unfinished as I stopped because of the hair

I'm probably not the best person to give advice, but maybe try shading the area under the hair, so that it has a shadow? Also, maybe try shading the hair a little. If the hair is one solid color, it makes it look very plain like it has no texture. That could be what's causing it to look like it's not part of the body. Hope this helps, and keep up the great work :)

I'd suggest to use quick strokes when drawing hair. If you try to make it super perfect with no fluid movement, it'll look choppy and bulky. Don't be afraid to make some quick fluid strokes for the hair! A sketch beforehand could also help so you get an idea of where the hair will be placed before you line it out.

Hope that helps a bit!

I second that, try making shorter strokes for the hair. and um you can try drawing the hair strands less thick/wide? and less straight. make it more flow-y (I'm so bad at explaining smh). sketching also helps before you line your work~

You might feel that the hair isn't 'a part' of the character because it looks like the hair is growing from many different directions. If you look at pictures of hair or even your own, you'll notice that hair tends to look like its growth converges from one spot like a water fountain.

Try setting a spot on your character's head and draw guidelines indicating where their hair should fall before going in and drawing the actual hair.
