I got it mostly from my dad's side-- both the waviness and the coarseness. My mom has less wavy and thinner hair. Honestly it's such a struggle washing my hair primarily because I need a lot of conditioner to really soften it; without good conditioner it ends up kinda rough and I don't like the feeling. That's why I'm super picky with my conditioner especially when I'm out of town.
It doesn't help that it's so hot here, so my hair tends to dry out resulting in an even rougher texture :[ I put hair oils often so it smoothens a lil bit. Also my hair is so thick that it takes so long for stylists to dry my hair out, but on the plus side I don't need a volumizer!
I have some that are curled to a supertight, tiny coil. I can pull a short coil out to a way longer piece than expected, and it springs back.
But then- the nightmare. It looks a mess because the curl pattern isn't consistent, at all, and i'll have a short coil right next to a longer, less coiled piece, and then there's a straightish, wavy piece mixed in. So it looks really rough. But then if i straighten it, all of those pieces match up in length.
And it depends on the humidity! More humidity = more curly. So it doesn't curl the same every day.
It looks decent when straightened, but if there's any amount of humidity, much less gasp - rain! It'll start to shrink, curl, and poof up rq. And it's really fine, so almost any amount of product weighs it down. Ugh. I'm kind of glad I'm to the point where i don't really care anymore what it looks like.
My hair is somewhere between 3A and 3B but I voted 3B as I wouldn’t say it’s “fine”, it’s more on the thick/medium side.
My curly pattern isn’t consistent throughout my entire head, I do have a few random wavy/straighter pieces underneath whereas the outer layers of my hair are more defined curls (or just straight frizz if I don’t style HAHAHA) which is annoying
I go through phases where I’ll straighten or blow out my hair for weeks and then suddenly I’ll decide to go natural lol. It’s fun to switch it up but I think I’d prefer if my natural hair was straight vs curly
Currently have it natural, use curl cream conditioner to stop it being too frizzy. But I straighten it more often than not just because it's less voluminous/crazy that way.
It's also really long right now, down to my mid-back. I haven't had it cut in like a year bc I was trying to grow it out. It grows really fast too lmao
It frizzes really easily, which is a nightmare in an excessively humid country like the UK. In tropics like South East Asia it's simply unmanageable and I need to keep it tied up at all times. Not looking forward to how it'll look when I go backpacking there next year
Wow, I enjoyed learning about human hair helping clean oil spills
My hair type is 2A.
So here’s another curiosity:
A friend told me that one gets their hair genes from their maternal family. He went bald in his 20s, and his maternal uncles were all bald. His dad in his 60s still had a full head of hair.
